Chapter 42

|

Winter arrived with a blanket of pristine white snow, covering the city in a quiet, beautiful peace. The expansion of Sovereign Physical Therapy was officially completed on schedule. The new wing was a masterpiece of modern healing, featuring state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pools, massive open-concept training floors for the Apex athletes, and a serene, private yoga studio.

I stood in the center of the new athletic wing, watching my newly hired staff—three brilliant physical therapists and two specialized trainers—working seamlessly with a group of high-profile clients.

"You did it," Lucas said, walking up behind me and slipping his hand into mine. "It's exactly like the sketches you drew on the napkins during our first anniversary dinner."

"It's better," I smiled, leaning my head against his shoulder. "Because you designed the architecture. The flow of this building is entirely because of you."

"I just built the walls, Maya," Lucas kissed my cheek. "You provided the soul."

Sarah marched across the training floor, holding a massive clipboard and looking incredibly official in her new role as the Director of Operations.

"Maya, the regional press is here for the ribbon-cutting ceremony," Sarah announced, her eyes shining with pride. "And Mr. Sterling from Apex just arrived with the mayor's office liaison."

"I'll be right there," I promised.

As Sarah walked away, I pulled the heavy brass keychain Chloe had given me from my pocket. It held the master keys to the entire expanded facility. The weight of it was substantial, grounding me in the undeniable reality of my success.

"Ready to face the cameras, CEO?" Lucas teased gently.

"I am," I said, taking a deep breath.

I walked out to the front lobby, where a red ribbon was strung across the massive glass doors. Dozens of people were gathered—my chosen family, my dedicated staff, and the community I had sworn to heal. I took the oversized scissors handed to me by the mayor's liaison, feeling the absolute, unshakeable power of my own sovereignty.

With a single, decisive motion, I cut the ribbon, officially opening the next chapter of my beautiful, unburdened life.
