Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush

At precisely nine o'clock the following morning, the thirty-fourth floor of Sterling Tower felt like a heavily armed war zone. The boardroom was lined with high-priced corporate attorneys, forensic accountants, and nervous board members whispering among themselves.

The double frosted-glass doors swung open with aggressive force, and Victoria Vance strode in, flanked by Genevieve and three senior litigation partners. Genevieve wore a modest maternity dress, clutching a designer leather folder against her stomach as if shielding a precious miracle.

“Gentlemen of the board, this meeting is officially in violation of a judicial injunction,” Victoria announced, slamming a stamped court order onto the mahogany table. “Any vote taken today regarding the liquidation of European assets or the alteration of trust bylaws is null and void!”

Several elderly board members shifted uncomfortably in their leather seats, exchanging anxious glances. Victoria smiled triumphantly, savoring the absolute dread she had successfully engineered across the room.

Then, from the head of the boardroom table, a woman rose from the shadows. Meredith was dressed in an impeccable charcoal suit, her dark hair pinned back with antique silver clasps, exuding regal authority.

“Take your seat, Victoria,” Meredith commanded, her voice cutting through the room like a sonic boom. “You are a minority proxy with zero voting authority in this chamber.”

Victoria’s sneer hardened into cold hatred as she locked eyes with the woman she thought was merely an eccentric, reclusive sister. “You have no standing here, Meredith; the court order clearly names Julian as the sole target of the conservatorship!”

Meredith stepped forward, tossing a thick, blue-bound legal document directly into the center of the table. “You clearly haven't read the 2016 amendment to the Sterling Family Trust, signed by our late father before his untimely death.”

Genevieve’s breath hitched, her hand trembling against her leather folder. “What amendment? My lawyers reviewed every public registry in Illinois!”

“It wasn't registered in Illinois, darling,” Meredith replied with icy delight. “It was registered under an irrevocable Swiss sovereign trust, granting me absolute, unilateral veto power over every share, every marriage contract, and every claim to the Sterling bloodline.”
