Chapter 6 - The Bribed Evaluator

The private dining alcove at The French Room in downtown Dallas was shrouded in dim candlelight and heavy velvet draperies. Camilla sat across from Dr. Evelyn Harrison, the senior court-appointed psychological evaluator assigned to the Sterling custody dispute.
Dr. Harrison adjusted her gold-rimmed reading glasses, methodically cutting into a plate of seared foie gras with practiced elegance. On the table between them lay a sealed leather portfolio containing the preliminary draft of the state's psychological assessment.
"The initial observational metrics on Elena Vance were remarkably resilient, Mrs. Sterling," Dr. Harrison murmured, dabbing her lips with a linen napkin. "The mother displays high emotional attunement, no clinical indicators of substance abuse, and strong maternal bonding."
Camilla let out a soft, mocking chuckle, reaching into her alligator-skin clutch to retrieve an encrypted digital banking token. She slid the small electronic device across the white tablecloth, letting it rest beside the doctor's crystal wine glass.
"That token provides direct administrative access to a numbered investment account at Bank Julius Baer in Zurich," Camilla said smoothly, her voice barely a whisper. "Five hundred thousand dollars has already cleared the preliminary ledger."
"An additional five hundred thousand will be wired the moment your final sworn report is submitted to Judge Thornton’s chambers," she added, swirling her vintage champagne. "A million dollars tax-free for three pages of professional clinical findings."
Dr. Harrison’s gaze flickered to the glowing token, her calculating eyes narrowing as professional ethics evaporated beneath the weight of overwhelming greed. She picked up the device, slipping it into her blazer pocket with a practiced, seamless motion.
"What specific psychiatric diagnoses would best serve the child's long-term developmental interests, Mrs. Sterling?" Dr. Harrison asked with a chilling, professional smile.
Camilla leaned across the table, her emerald eyes glittering with predatory triumph in the flickering candlelight. "Borderline personality disorder with acute narcissistic decompensation and Munchausen syndrome by proxy."
"I want you to state under oath that Elena intentionally induces panic attacks in Lily to manipulate state custody protocols," Camilla instructed with icy precision. "I want you to recommend the total and permanent termination of all maternal visitation rights."

"Consider it done," Dr. Harrison replied, lifting her glass in a silent toast to the corrupt transaction. "I will file the revised psychological affidavit first thing tomorrow morning, declaring Elena a clear and present psychological danger to the child."
Three tables away, sitting in a quiet corner booth behind a decorative palm tree, David Torres adjusted his headphones. The high-gain audio feed from the directional microphone in his briefcase was recording every single syllable of the million-dollar bribe in pristine, uncompressed digital audio.
