Chapter 14 - Handcuffs on Silk
Judge Thornton adjusted his microphone, his voice resounding through the vaulted chamber with the finality of an iron vault closing forever. "The court finds that the petitioner, Camilla Sterling, has engaged in systemic child abuse, witness intimidation, subornation of perjury, and aggravated judicial bribery."
"I am immediately issuing an emergency order granting sole, permanent, and unencumbered legal and physical custody of the minor child, Lily Vance, to her biological mother, Elena Vance," Judge Thornton declared, striking his heavy gavel. "All parental and custodial claims asserted by Camilla Sterling are terminated with prejudice."
"Furthermore," the judge continued, looking directly at the federal marshals stationed at the defense table. "United States Marshals, take the defendant, Camilla Sterling, and her co-conspirator, Dr. Evelyn Harrison, into immediate federal custody."
Special Agent Marcus Miller stepped forward, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his tactical belt. "Camilla Sterling, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, interstate racketeering, and aggravated child abuse."
Camilla let out a piercing, unhinged shriek as the cold steel ratchets clicked tightly around her manicured wrists, pinning her arms behind the delicate champagne-silk fabric of her designer suit. "Get your filthy hands off me! Do you know who I am? Julian, tell them! Tell them to release me!"
Julian Sterling stood tall, looking down at his weeping, disgraced bride with cold, absolute disgust. He slowly slid his platinum wedding band off his finger, dropping the ring onto the defense table where it landed with a hollow, metallic clink.
"I have already instructed my corporate attorneys to file for an immediate annulment on grounds of criminal fraud," Julian said, his voice devoid of any warmth or mercy. "You are stripped of every corporate trust, every credit line, and every penny of the Sterling name."

"You will rot in a federal penitentiary for the rest of your natural life, Camilla," Julian added, turning his back on her as the marshals dragged her kicking and screaming down the center aisle of the courtroom. The journalists’ camera flashes illuminated her ultimate disgrace, broadcasting her ruin to millions of viewers across the country.
Dr. Evelyn Harrison was handcuffed alongside her, her career, medical license, and reputation permanently destroyed by the million-dollar bribe that became her prison sentence.
