Chapter 1 - The Poisoned Honey

The polished marble floors of the prestigious St. Jude Early Learning Academy reflected the morning sunlight like a sheet of pure ice. Camilla Sterling stepped through the double mahogany doors, draped in an impeccably tailored champagne-silk trench coat that cost more than the teachers made in half a year.

Her diamond-encrusted wedding band caught the glare of the overhead chandeliers as she reached into her designer handbag. She pulled out an unsealed cream envelope thick with ten thousand dollars in crisp hundred-dollar bills.

Headmistress Barlow looked up from her desk, her nervous eyes darting between the cash and the cold, porcelain face of the billionaire’s new wife. The wealthy woman’s reputation for ruthless social manipulation had already spread through the elite circles of Dallas.

"Mrs. Sterling, our school records are strictly confidential and governed by state privacy guidelines," the administrator stammered, smoothing her pencil skirt. "If Elena discovered that we altered the pickup logs, the board would face immediate legal sanctions."

Camilla leaned forward, planting both hands on the mahogany desk, her manicured crimson fingernails digging into the varnished wood. A razor-thin smile curled her lips, sharp enough to draw blood in the quiet office.

"Elena is a middle-class graphic designer living in a rented townhouse on the rough side of the river," Camilla whispered, her voice dripping with smooth venom. "You are looking at the executive director of the Sterling Family Philanthropic Trust, which funds seventy percent of your annual expansion budget."

The headmistress swallowed hard, her trembling fingers reaching across the blotter toward the heavy envelope. She knew that defying the Sterling empire meant the instantaneous termination of her thirty-year career.

"What exactly do you require on the state behavioral forms, Mrs. Sterling?" Barlow asked, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "We can document attendance discrepancies and emotional distress starting from the first of the month."

Camilla straightened her coat, her emerald eyes glittering with triumphant malice under the fluorescent lights. The first phase of her grand revenge was locking into place with mathematical precision.

"Document that Elena consistently arrives forty minutes late smelling of cheap liquor and shouting obscenities in the reception foyer," Camilla instructed with clinical detachment. "Document that four-year-old Lily arrives in soiled clothing with unexplained bruises across her forearms."

"And ensure that when Child Protective Services conducts their preliminary wellness assessment this Friday, your staff describes Elena as an unfit, violent narcissist," she added coldly. "I want the state file so thoroughly poisoned that no family court judge in Texas will let that woman within five hundred feet of my husband’s heir."

Headmistress Barlow nodded in silent submission, sliding the cash into her bottom drawer and opening the school's digital registry portal. Camilla turned on her five-inch stiletto heels, walking back toward her chauffeured town car with the predatory grace of a panther scenting fresh prey.

In the courtyard playground outside the window, little Lily was sitting alone on a wooden bench, hugging her knees against the autumn chill. Camilla watched the child through the tinted glass, her heart completely untouched by the little girl's fragile innocence.

"You took my wedding night, you miserable little brat," Camilla hissed beneath her breath as the chauffeur opened the vehicle door. "Now you are going to give me back my crown."
