Chapter 6 - The Poisoned Ledger

Julian’s face twisted into an ugly, furious sneer as the board members began scrambling away from him, pulling their chairs back in sheer terror of federal contagion. Victoria sank back into her executive chair, her hands trembling violently as her decades-old web of lies dissolved into dust.

“This is a coordinated fabrication!” Julian shouted, slamming his fists onto the conference table. “You bribed some offshore hacker to doctor these files, Vincent; you cannot strip our family’s authority with stolen documents!”

Vincent didn't raise his voice; he walked slowly down the length of the table, his footsteps echoing with terrifying finality. He reached into his coat pocket and placed a clear plastic evidence bag containing a small amber glass vial directly in front of Victoria.

“Let’s talk about what else you stole from the Vance family, Victoria,” Vincent said, his voice dropping into a menacing, lethal whisper. “Doctor Harrison just completed the chemical analysis of the tea leaves recovered from David Vance’s private study after his fatal heart attack.”

Victoria’s breath hitched in her throat, her eyes widening in pure, animal dread as she recognized the amber vial. The label on the evidence bag displayed the chemical structure of synthetic digitalis extract—a tasteless, undetectable compound designed to induce cardiac arrest in healthy adults.

“You didn't just frame David Vance to steal his deep-water shipping berths,” Clara spoke, tears of righteous fury shimmering in her eyes. “You systematically poisoned him over six months while pretending to be his corporate benefactor.”

The entire boardroom erupted into gasps of horror and condemnation, several board members standing up to openly denounce the disgraced matriarch. Victoria looked around the room, finding only disgust and hatred in the eyes of every titan of industry she had spent twenty years manipulating.

“You have no jurisdiction to present this evidence in a corporate setting!” Julian screamed, pulling his phone from his pocket to dial his private security detail. “The Castiglione family controls the port authority, and you will never leave this building alive!”

Vincent moved with blinding, lethal efficiency, grabbing Julian’s wrist and twisting it upward until the expensive smartphone shattered on the marble floor. He drove Julian’s face down against the cold stone, holding him pinned with effortless, terrifying strength.

“The port authority was raided by federal marshals twenty minutes ago, Julian,” Vincent whispered into his stepbrother’s ear. “And your friend Don Salvatore Castiglione is currently sitting in an interrogation cell in the Dirksen Federal Building.”
