Chapter 5 - The Sovereign Veto

The boardroom descended into an uproar of shocked whispers as Vincent took his place at the opposite end of the long conference table. Clara stood tall beside him, her hands folded gracefully over the brushed titanium briefcase resting on the marble.

Julian quickly recovered his composure, his sneer returning as his eyes locked onto Clara’s emerald gown with dismissive mockery. “What is the meaning of bringing an unvetted civilian into a closed executive session, Vincent? Security, remove this woman immediately!”

Two private guards stepped forward, but Vincent raised a single finger, causing both armed men to freeze instantly in their tracks. “Touch one hair on her head, Julian, and you will be escorted out of this skyscraper in federal handcuffs.”

Vincent tapped the master touch screen on the conference table, activating the gigantic 8K projection displays spanning the entire eastern wall. The screens illuminated with high-resolution scans of the original 1998 Vance Harbor Logistics corporate charter.

“Allow me to introduce Miss Clara Vance,” Vincent announced to the stunned board of directors. “The sole surviving daughter of David Vance, and the rightful forty-nine percent owner of the deep-water shipping terminals that generate eighty percent of this company’s revenue.”

Victoria banged her manicured hand onto the table, her voice screeching in desperate outrage. “That is ancient history! David Vance was convicted of federal smuggling a decade ago, and his voting equity was lawfully seized by our holding trust!”

Clara stepped forward, her voice clear, resonant, and filled with the unyielding authority of a woman who had found her true voice. “My father was framed by corporate documents forged on Julian Sterling’s private terminal, Mrs. Sterling.”

She pressed her thumb against the biometric lock of the titanium briefcase, popping open the lid and pulling out a stack of sealed forensic affidavits. “These are the unredacted digital audit logs recovered from the Castiglione syndicate’s primary offshore server in Nassau.”

The wall screens flickered, displaying wire transfers of twelve million dollars moving from Julian’s personal accounts into the offshore shell entities that funded the false testimony against David Vance. Beneath the financial records was an audio recording of Julian negotiating the illegal annexation of the Vance docks with Don Salvatore Castiglione.

“Every share of stock you attempted to vote on today is legally tied to my father’s stolen equity,” Clara declared, looking Julian dead in the eyes. “And under Section Four of the master maritime charter, I hereby exercise my sovereign right of absolute veto over this entire board.”
