Chapter 14 - The Ring by the Shore

That evening, the golden rays of the setting sun painted the sky over Lake Michigan in breathtaking ribbons of amber, crimson, and deep violet. Vincent and Clara walked along the private sandy shoreline of the newly restored Vance Harbor Reserve, the gentle waves lapping rhythmically against the stone breakwater.
Clara wore a soft cream cashmere sweater and dark trousers, her hair flowing freely in the cool evening breeze. She held Vincent’s hand, their fingers interlacing naturally as they looked out over the vast, shimmering expanse of the water.
“Do you ever miss the diner, Clara?” Vincent asked with a gentle, teasing smile. “Sam told me yesterday that he still keeps your yellow apron framed in the back office.”
Clara laughed softly, her eyes sparkling with pure, unadulterated happiness. “I loved the honesty of that diner, Vincent… but I love the life we are building together even more.”
Vincent stopped walking, turning to face her as the last light of the sun crested the horizon. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined box of midnight-blue leather.
He dropped to one knee on the cool, clean sand, looking up into her hazel eyes with a devotion so profound and raw it took her breath away. He opened the box, revealing a magnificent four-carat emerald-cut diamond ring set in brushed platinum, mirroring the timeless elegance of the ocean before them.
“Clara, you walked into my life carrying a forgotten titanium briefcase and the courage of an entire dynasty,” Vincent spoke, his voice thick with genuine, heartfelt emotion. “You showed me that power without honor is an illusion, and you gave me a reason to fight for something greater than an empire.”
Tears of joy welled in Clara’s eyes, her hand trembling as she pressed her fingertips against her lips. “Vincent…”
“Will you do me the greatest honor of my life, Clara Vance?” Vincent asked, his eyes shining in the twilight. “Will you marry me and build our future together as equals?”

“Yes,” Clara whispered through her tears, stepping forward into his arms. “Yes, Vincent… a thousand times, yes.”
Vincent slid the platinum ring onto her left ring finger, rising to his full height and pulling her into a fierce, passionate embrace as the ocean breeze swirled around them. The shadows of the past were completely gone, replaced by the boundless, brilliant promise of a love forged in fire and truth.
