Chapter 11 - The Marina Stash

Three days later, Special Agent Reynolds called me for a final debriefing at the federal field office in Austin.

The investigation had metastasized into one of the largest military recovery operations in Texas history.

Acting on information extracted during Bradley’s military interrogation, tactical teams raided a luxury dry-dock marina on Lake Travis.

Inside Bradley’s fifty-foot cabin cruiser—purchased with laundered syndicate money—agents uncovered a hidden false bulkhead beneath the master stateroom.

The compartment contained fifty unregistered automatic rifles and half a million dollars in uncirculated hundred-dollar bills earmarked for international arms buyers.

"Bradley Vance was scheduled to meet the buyers at the marina three hours after your Memorial Day barbecue, Major," Agent Reynolds explained, closing the thick case file.

"If you hadn't neutralized him on that mat and triggered the surveillance alert, those weapons would have been on a cargo freighter bound for South America."

"Your intervention saved countless lives across two continents."

I looked through the one-way glass into the federal holding cells below.

Bradley sat on a metal bench, staring blankly at the concrete floor, wearing an orange jumpsuit with 'US MILITARY PRISONER' stenciled in bold black letters across his back.

His swagger was gone.

His fake military pedigree was permanently erased from every public record.

He was nothing more than a cautionary tale of greed, arrogance, and stolen valor.

"What happens to Kendra?" I asked, turning back to Reynolds.

"Mrs.

Vance cooperated fully with the asset recovery team," Reynolds answered.

"Because she had no operational knowledge of the weapons trafficking, she has been granted full immunity in exchange for her testimony at the military tribunal."

"She signed over all claims to the family trust and the suburban property."

"Your family is completely clear of all legal liability, Major Hayes."

I shook the agent's hand, feeling the final weight of the ordeal lift from my shoulders.

"Thank you, Reynolds."

"Dismissed."
