Chapter 6 - The Architect of Shadows

The damp concrete chamber fell into a suffocating, breathless silence as Genevieve stared up at Dominic in absolute horror. She realized with chilling finality that every defense, every excuse, and every shred of leverage she had wielded for seven years was completely incinerated.
“Julian Laurent helped you fabricate the trust documents, didn't he?” Dominic asked, his hand resting on the cold steel grip of his sidearm. “He used your father’s fabricated legacy to siphon ninety million dollars from our European logistics terminals.”
Genevieve began to weep, real tears of animal terror washing black streaks of mascara down her trembling cheeks. “Julian approached me three years ago… he said if we drained your liquidity and removed Clara from the board, the syndicate council would force you to step down!”
“And where did that ninety million go, Genevieve?” Dominic demanded, his voice echoing with lethal authority. “Tell me where the offshore clearinghouse is located before I leave you in this vault to rot.”
“It’s routed through the Laurent Private Equity Bank in Marseille!” Genevieve sobbed, thrashing helplessly against the ropes. “Julian is hosting an emergency shareholder meeting at the Chicago Union Club at noon today to execute the takeover!”
Dominic turned his back on her, walking toward the heavy iron exit where Marcus and four armed operators stood waiting. “Strip her family name from every corporate charter, seize her Highland Park estate under our emergency forfeiture protocol, and remand her to the federal penitentiary liaison.”
“Boss, are we handing a syndicate family over to the FBI?” Marcus asked, his jaw dropping in utter shock. “That violates every rule of the underworld code!”
“The underworld code was written by men who butchered their own brothers for paper money,” Dominic said, stepping out into the cold morning air. “I am dismantling the entire syndicate from the inside out, starting with Julian Laurent.”
He pulled his satellite phone from his pocket, dialing the direct, private line of Assistant United States Attorney Claire Montgomery. Montgomery had spent five years trying to build a RICO case against the Vance family, only to find herself staring at an encrypted data drop containing the entire criminal network.
“Prosecutor Montgomery, this is Dominic Vance,” he stated with cold, unwavering precision. “I am sending you the complete financial ledgers, corporate shell structures, and murder contracts for the Laurent and Cross families.”
“What do you want in return, Vance?” Montgomery asked cautiously through the static of the secure line. “Immunity? A reduced sentence?”

“I don't want immunity, and I don't want a deal,” Dominic answered, looking up at the grey sky where the storm was beginning to clear. “I want every corrupt official, every dirty captain, and every traitor in this city behind bars before sunset.”
He ended the call, adjusted his tactical vest, and stepped into his armored SUV. The time for underworld politics was over; it was time to tear down the empire he had built on lies and lay the wreckage at his wife’s feet.
