Chapter 9 - Tarmac Takedown

The morning mist hung heavy over the tarmac at Richmond Executive Airport as a sleek twin-engine Learjet spooled its turbofans outside Hangar 7.

Gavin arrived in a nondescript rental sedan, wearing a dark baseball cap and carrying a heavy duffel bag slung across his chest.

He walked hurriedly toward the aircraft’s boarding stairs, casting nervous glances over his shoulder at the empty runway.

Just as his foot touched the first metal step, four black armored Suburbans roared around the hangar corner, tires screeching across the asphalt.

The vehicles boxed the private jet in from all sides, high-intensity strobe lights cutting through the gray morning haze.

"Federal agents! Drop the bag and step away from the aircraft!" a voice boomed over a tactical loudspeaker.

Gavin froze, his eyes widening in pure, unadulterated panic.

He dropped the duffel bag and turned to sprint toward the open field behind the hangar, his expensive designer sneakers slipping on the wet tarmac.

Marcus was faster.

In three powerful strides, Marcus closed the distance, tackling Gavin to the asphalt with a textbook takedown that knocked the wind completely out of his lungs.

Gavin let out a pathetic gasp as his face was pressed hard against the freezing tarmac, his arms twisted behind his back.

The cold steel of federal handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists with final, unforgiving precision.

"Get off me! I'm a private citizen traveling on business!" Gavin wailed, thrashing uselessly against the ground.

"Marcus, please! We're family! You can't do this to your own brother-in-law!"

Marcus stood up, adjusting his overcoat, looking down at the groveling man with absolute, icy contempt.

"You stopped being family the moment you left an invalid mother to freeze under an overpass, Gavin."

"You are a common thief, a coward, and a federal felon."

"Read him his rights, Agent Chen."

As the federal agents read Gavin his Miranda rights over the roar of the idling jet, Marcus picked up the heavy duffel bag containing the remaining cash and ledgers.

The hunt was over.

The trap had snapped shut.
