Chapter 5 - The Cracking Facade

Gavin’s smug veneer cracked for a split second, revealing the cornered, venomous rat underneath.

He took an aggressive step toward Marcus, jabbing a manicured finger into the empty air between them.

"You're out of your jurisdiction, you washed-up desk clerk!" Gavin spat, his voice rising into a sharp, hysterical tenor.

"My legal team drafted ironclad conveyances!"

"The deed is recorded in the county courthouse, the escrow has closed, and the equity has cleared international settlement!"

"You have no standing, no warrant, and no authority in this room!"

"Actually, Mr.

Vance, he has all three," a loud, resonant voice echoed from the ballroom foyer.

Fourteen federal special agents in tactical windbreakers, flanked by armed Henrico County deputies, walked through the double doors in strict formation.

Leading them was Assistant Special Agent in Charge Miller, holding a thick stack of red-stamped federal seizure warrants.

The country club's private security guards immediately stepped back, hands raised, retreating against the wainscoted walls.

"Gavin Vance and Brenda Larson," Agent Miller announced, presenting the documents to the room.

"Pursuant to an emergency order issued by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, all assets of Apex Horizon LLC are subject to immediate federal seizure."

"This includes bank accounts, corporate ledgers, luxury vehicles, and all recorded real estate titles obtained through fraudulent instrumentalities."

The wealthy investors surrounding Gavin scrambled backward, whispering in horrified embarrassment as they abandoned him like rats fleeing a sinking ship.

"This is a mistake!" Brenda shrieked, backing into a decorative ice sculpture as two female agents stepped forward with handcuffs.

"Gavin told me the old woman was going to die anyway!"

"He said the doctors gave her less than a week!"

"He promised me twenty percent of the equity if I stamped the paperwork before probate kicked in!"

"Shut your mouth, Brenda!" Gavin roared, his eyes wild with terror as the entire room watched his criminal empire unravel in public humiliation.

Marcus looked down at Gavin with cold, unyielding disgust.

"You sold your mother’s life for a down payment on a boat, Gavin."

"Now, you're going to pay for it with every year you have left."
