Chapter 8 - The Storage Vault Raid

At dawn the next morning, a joint tactical team from IRS-CI and the FBI converged on the Midlothian storage facility.
The heavy metal roll-up door of Unit 402 was cut open in seconds with a high-powered hydraulic saw.
Inside, beneath stacks of dusty moving boxes, agents uncovered two large black Pelican waterproof cases.
When Marcus popped the heavy latches, the interior revealed rows of neatly banded hundred-dollar bills totaling one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in cash.
Next to the currency lay Clara’s stolen family heirlooms: her grandmother’s 1920 platinum sapphire ring, antique gold pocket watches, and the military medals earned by our late father in Vietnam.
Tucked into the lining of the second case was a forged Canadian passport bearing Gavin’s photograph under the alias "David Miller."
"He was three hours away from fleeing the jurisdiction," Agent Chen remarked, cataloging the fraudulent travel documents.
"The charter flight out of Richmond Executive was scheduled for 8:30 AM."
Marcus checked his tactical chronograph watch; it was precisely 6:45 AM.
"Alert the air traffic control tower and dispatch the federal marshal intercept team to the private hangar," Marcus ordered.
"Gavin won't be boarding that flight."
Meanwhile, back at the safehouse, Mom was sitting up in bed, color slowly returning to her cheeks as she ate a warm breakfast I had prepared.
I held her hand, showing her photographs of the recovered heirlooms that Marcus had texted to my phone.
"My mother's ring..." Mom whispered, tears flowing freely down her face as she pressed my hand against her heart.
"I thought everything my parents left me was gone forever, Maya."
"Nothing is gone, Mom," I promised her, kissing her silver hair.

"Marcus is bringing every single piece of your life back home."
"And Gavin will never be able to hurt you again."
