Chapter 8 - The Wiretapped Confession

Two federal marshals entered the boardroom, lifting Bianca from her chair and clicking heavy steel handcuffs around her manicured wrists. As Bianca was dragged toward the door, weeping uncontrollably, Arthur Pendelton dropped to his knees before the table, trembling in absolute terror.
“Ms. Sterling, please… I was deceived by Eleanor!” Pendelton pleaded, pressing his hands together in desperate supplication. “She presented forged probate documents from twenty years ago; I swear on my career I had no knowledge of the murder plot!”
I looked down at the disgraced attorney with cold, unyielding pity. “You knew enough to draft the fraudulent conservatorship decree that was supposed to put me in an asylum, Arthur.”
I signaled Charles, who inserted an encrypted thumb drive into the master audio console. The crystal-clear surround sound system of the boardroom filled the chamber with an audio recording captured inside Julian’s private study three weeks prior.
Julian’s arrogant, slurred voice echoed from every speaker with horrifying clarity: ”Once Victoria signs the trust transfer after the twins are born, Eleanor will handle the rest with the humidifier; we’ll tell the probate court the babies died of sudden crib death, and Victoria suffered a psychotic break.”

Then came Bianca’s cruel, mocking laugh on the recording: ”Make sure she’s locked away in the Vermont clinic before the spring gala, Julian; I want to wear her sapphire necklace to the opening night at the opera.”
The recorded conversation left the entire boardroom in a state of stunned, breathless horror. Arthur Pendelton buried his face against the carpet, realizing that every single word had been recorded and authenticated under federal wiretap warrants.
“You didn't just commit corporate malpractice, Arthur; you actively participated in a conspiracy to commit capital murder,” I announced, looking down at him. “Your license to practice law in the United States was permanently revoked by the state supreme court twenty minutes ago.”
Agent Reed stepped into the room, holding another set of federal arrest warrants for the trembling attorney. “Arthur Pendelton, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, federal wire fraud, and obstruction of justice.”

As the marshals dragged Pendelton out of the room alongside Bianca, the heavy doors clicked shut, restoring absolute peace to the top floor of the tower. I turned to face my board of directors, seeing the profound respect and unshakeable loyalty in their eyes.
“Now that our house is clean, gentlemen,” I spoke with serene authority, “let us proceed with the restructuring of Sovereign Global.”
