Chapter 12 - The Auction of Stolen Crowns

Three months after the dramatic confrontation in the lobby, the United States Marshals Service hosted the largest public asset forfeiture auction in the history of the Midwest. The grand ballroom of The Aurelia Grand was packed with hundreds of bidders, art collectors, and international museum curators.

On display were the extravagant luxuries the Kensington family had accumulated using embezzled Vance funds: rare Italian sports cars, diamond-encrusted jewelry, vintage oil paintings, and Chloe’s private collection of designer couture. Every item was labeled with a bright yellow Department of Justice seizure tag.

Serena stood on the mezzanine balcony, dressed in a simple, elegant ivory silk blouse and black tailored trousers, watching the auctioneer’s gavel fall with rhythmic, satisfying precision. Beside her stood Elena Hayes and Arthur Montgomery, reviewing the real-time financial tallies on a secure terminal.

“Lot 104: The five-carat Sterling diamond solitaire, sold for four point two million dollars to the bidder on the floor!” the auctioneer shouted, slamming his wooden mallet onto the podium. A round of applause echoed through the vast ballroom as the jewel that Victoria had stolen was officially sold to fund pediatric trauma research.

“The total auction proceeds have just crossed eighty-five million dollars,” Elena announced with a bright, triumphant smile. “Every single cent is being wired directly into the Marcus Vance Memorial Foundation for underprivileged students.”

Serena took a sip of sparkling water, looking down at the empty front-row seats where Howard, Victoria, and Chloe had once preened in stolen luxury. The arrogance that had once terrorized her family had been converted into medicine, scholarships, and hope for thousands of innocent lives.

“How does it feel to see their entire empire sold off piece by piece, Chairman?” Arthur asked gently. “Does it bring you the closure you were searching for?”

Serena smiled softly, her eyes shining with absolute peace and clarity. “It brings me justice, Arthur… and justice is the only foundation that can never be torn down.”
