Chapter 1 - The Arrest in Room 402

The heavy hospital door swung open with a resounding bang that echoed down the quiet corridor.

Lead Detective Marcus Vance stepped into the sterile room, his badge gleaming under the harsh white lights.

Behind him stood two uniformed officers with pairs of heavy steel handcuffs hanging from their utility belts.

Julian’s face drained of every drop of color as he instinctively reached for his tailored jacket.

Beatrice’s breath hitched in her throat, her emerald cardigan trembling against her withered chest.

“Mr. Julian Sterling and Mrs. Beatrice Sterling, you are both under arrest for attempted murder, aggravated assault, and domestic terrorism,” Detective Vance announced in a gravelly voice.

“This is an outrage!” Beatrice shrieked, clutching her lace handkerchief like a weapon.

“My son is a prominent venture capitalist, and my daughter-in-law had a clumsy kitchen accident!”

“Save your rehearsed lies for the arraignment judge, Beatrice,” Dr. Chloe Adams interrupted with razor-sharp contempt.

Chloe turned her tablet screen toward the stunned matriarch, pressing the play button.

The ultra-high-definition 4K video streamed with crystal-clear audio and zero latency.

On the screen, Beatrice was clearly visible lifting the bubbling pan of oil with a grotesque, sadistic smile.

Her venomous whisper about a wife’s place hissed through the tablet’s dual speakers with horrifying clarity.

Then, Julian appeared on camera, calmly stepping over my writhing body to inspect his pristine oxblood loafers.

He was heard murmuring to Beatrice about ensuring the burn destroyed the skin graft above my collarbone where my trust signature was kept.

Julian took a stumbling step backward, colliding with the metal IV stand next to my bed.

“Valerie… please, darling, you know this is a total misunderstanding,” Julian stammered, his charismatic facade dissolving into pathetic desperation.

I slowly turned my head against the sterile pillow, the fire in my scorched skin fueling the ice in my veins.

“For four years, you thought you married a trophy wife who forgot how the law works, Julian,” I whispered through cracked, dry lips.

“I wrote the prosecution guidelines for felony domestic torture when I worked for the state attorney general.”

Detective Vance grabbed Julian’s wrists, forcing them behind his back with an aggressive, metallic click of handcuffs.

“You have the right to remain silent, Mr. Sterling,” Vance barked, shoving him against the wall.

Beatrice was shoved into her own restraints, her manicured fingers struggling against the cold steel cuffs.

As they were marched out into the hallway amidst the flashing camera lenses of hospital staff, I closed my eyes and smiled.

The physical burn on my back was agonizing, but the absolute destruction of their dynasty had finally begun.
