Chapter 9 - The Federal Sweep

At ten-fifteen that evening, the heavy roar of six twin-turbine federal transport helicopters shook the leaded glass windows of the grand ballroom.

Blinding searchlights bathed the entire sixty-acre estate in brilliant white illumination as twenty-four United States Federal Marshals and FBI tactical agents breached the portico.

Leading the federal task force was Special Agent Marcus Reed—the legendary head of the Northern District Organized Crime and Public Corruption Division.

Agent Reed marched into the grand ballroom with an unsealed, red-sealed federal RICO indictment bearing ninety-four felony counts.

Behind him walked Assistant United States Attorney Claire Montgomery, holding the digital transcripts of Lorenzo’s decrypted satellite calls.

“Lorenzo Moretti and Celeste Moretti, by order of the United States District Court, you are officially under federal arrest,” Agent Reed announced in a booming voice.

“The charges include premeditated murder of a federal maritime witness, interstate corporate extortion, conspiracy to commit human trafficking, and grand racketeering.”

Federal agents swarmed the landing, hauling Lorenzo to his feet by his torn uniform while two female agents brought Celeste up from the basement holding cells in chains.

Celeste was weeping hysterically, her emerald gown stained with soot, her vanity completely annihilated beneath the flashing cameras of the federal evidence team.

“Dante! Tell them to stop!” Celeste screamed, thrashing against her restraints.

“We are family! You cannot hand the Moretti name to the federal government!”

Dante stood on the grand staircase beside Elena and Maya, looking down at the disgraced siblings with absolute, serene finality.

“The Moretti name does not belong to murderers, thieves, and cowards, Celeste,” Dante spoke with majestic authority.

“The Moretti name belongs to the men and women who build with honor, protect the weak, and keep their sacred vows.”

Agent Reed stepped up to Dante, exchanging a crisp, respectful nod with the syndicate leader.

“Mr. Moretti, the Department of Justice acknowledges receipt of the unredacted Swiss servers and the full restitution escrow fund of one hundred and twenty million dollars.”

“All federal inquiries into Marcus Vance’s historical logistics operations are officially closed with full posthumous exoneration.”

As the federal marshals dragged Lorenzo and Celeste out through the grand bronze doors into the waiting convoy of federal vehicles, the high-society guests watched in stunned, breathless silence.

The thirty-year reign of terror engineered by the corrupt branch of the family had been permanently extinguished in a single, glorious night of justice.
