Chapter 9 - THE BETRAYAL INSIDE THE HOUSE

Nico was the last person Alessandro expected to suspect.
He had stood beside Alessandro through threats, betrayals, and years of violence. He knew every security procedure and every hidden exit in the estate.
Yet the back corridor could only have been opened using a senior access code.
Alessandro summoned the security staff and ordered an independent review of the entry records. He did not accuse Nico without evidence, but he did not dismiss the possibility either.
“I would never sell you out,” Nico said quietly.
“I know what you've done for me. That's why I need the truth.”
The records showed that the corridor had been opened using a temporary code issued to a contractor three months earlier. That code should have expired.
Someone had reactivated it.
The authorization bore Vittorio's digital signature.
Meanwhile, Serena admitted that Henry had been collecting information about Mia for months. He had been searching for the identity of Matteo's child and had apparently discovered the old amendment linking Mia to the Vieri family.
Chiara sat beside her daughter, holding her tightly.
“If she has a claim to something, we can discuss it when she's grown,” she said. “Until then, she's a child.”
Alessandro nodded.
“Mia's safety comes first. No document, inheritance, or business arrangement changes that.”
That evening, Mia asked if she could see the white roses from the day she had first approached him. They had been placed in a glass vase in the hallway, their petals beginning to wilt.
“Are you still going to marry the pretty lady?” Mia asked.
“No.”
“Because she was mean to Mama?”
“Because she lied. And because I need to become someone who doesn't ignore the truth just because it's convenient.”
Mia considered this, then handed him a small drawing.
It showed Alessandro, Chiara, and herself standing beside a house with a red door.
At the top, she'd written OUR HOME.
Alessandro's throat tightened.

Then he noticed a detail in the background of her picture: a black car parked beside the gate, with a symbol painted on the door.
The same symbol appeared on the company records connected to Henry Bellini.
