Chapter 9 - The Montgomery Heritage

Clara opened the leather portfolio on the mahogany table, sliding the certified original 2014 Port Authority charters before the commissioners.
On top of the parchment lay her father’s gold signet ring, its polished crest catching the overhead lights with radiant brilliance.
Chief Legal Counsel Arthur Montgomery stepped forward, placing an unsealed probate decree bearing the gold seal of the Massachusetts Supreme Court beside the charter.
“Gentlemen of the board, following the successful decryption of the Thorne offshore servers, the 2014 bankruptcy of Jonathan Montgomery has been officially vacated for fraud,” Arthur announced.
“Under the terms of the original founding charter, all fifty percent of the deep-water docking rights and sovereign harbor equity are restored immediately to Jonathan’s sole surviving heir—Clara Montgomery.”
The thirty board members rose from their leather chairs in synchronized, reverent respect, bowing their heads toward the young woman at the head of the table.
The corrupt commissioners who had accepted bribes from Senator Thorne shrank back, sweating profusely as they realized their careers were over.
Senator Marcus Thorne stood paralyzed near the window, his face gaunt, his political empire crumbling into dust before his eyes.
“This is impossible…” the Senator whispered, his hands trembling as he stared at the gold signet ring.
“Jonathan Montgomery died with zero surviving heirs… the records were sealed!”
“You sealed the records by bribing a county clerk, Marcus,” Dominic spoke, stepping up to the trembling politician.
“And that same clerk signed a full sworn confession before a federal grand jury at six o'clock this morning.”
“Every bribe, every forged deed, and the murder contract on Jonathan Montgomery’s vehicle has been logged into federal evidence.”
Dominic picked up the Senator’s gold fountain pen from the table, snapping the metal barrel in half with his bare fingers and tossing the pieces into the waste bin.
“Your family spent ten years stealing bread from an orphan’s table, Marcus.”
“Now, the federal government is going to seize every house, every yacht, and every offshore dollar carrying the Thorne name.”
Agent Reed stepped forward, grabbing the Senator’s wrists and securing them with heavy iron chains.
“Senator Marcus Thorne, your congressional immunity was formally stripped by the United States Senate Ethics Committee forty minutes ago.”
“You will be transported directly to the federal detention center in Central Massachusetts without the possibility of bail.”
As the federal marshals dragged the disgraced senator and his daughter through the shattered double doors, the press cameras in the hallway flashed blindingly.
The grand conspiracy that had terrorized Boston for a decade had been permanently decapitated in less than twenty minutes.
Clara touched her father’s signet ring on the table, feeling the long, painful winter of her youth finally dissolve into the warm light of justice.
Dominic looked down at her, a look of profound, unshakeable pride filling his dark eyes as he placed his hand gently over hers.

“Welcome home, Chairman Montgomery,” Dominic whispered softly.
“The harbor is yours.”
