Chapter 15 - The Queen of the Harbor

One year to the day after the fateful dinner at Table Nine, the golden summer sun rose over the calm, turquoise waters of Boston Harbor.

A magnificent eighty-foot classic wooden sailing yacht, The Sanctuary, glided effortlessly across the open bay beneath the cloudless blue sky.

The white canvas sails caught the gentle morning breeze, spraying light sea-mist across the polished mahogany deck.

Clara stood at the wooden bow, wearing a comfortable white linen sundress, her bare feet resting against the teak planks.

Around her neck hung her father’s restored gold signet ring, the polished metal glittering brilliantly in the morning light.

Dominic walked up from the cabin below, carrying two crystal glasses of sparkling mineral water with fresh lemon.

He was dressed in a simple navy linen shirt with his sleeves rolled up, looking relaxed, peaceful, and completely transformed from the cold kingpin who had once sat in the shadows.

He set the glasses on the small brass table and wrapped his arms securely around Clara from behind, pulling her close against his beating heart.

“Do you remember what you wrote on that linen napkin one year ago, Clara?” Dominic asked softly, resting his chin against her shoulder.

Clara laughed softly, turning in his arms to face him, her hazel eyes sparkling with boundless love and joy.

“Your fiancée set a trap. Avoid east tunnel,” she recited with a playful smile.

“Seven words that saved my life,” Dominic whispered, his voice thick with raw, profound emotion.

“And gave me the only treasure in this world that truly matters.”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined box of midnight-blue leather.

He dropped to one knee on the sunlit teak deck, looking up into her eyes with a devotion so deep and pure it took her breath away.

He opened the box, revealing a breathtaking four-carat flawless emerald-cut diamond ring set in brushed platinum, mirroring the timeless elegance of the sea before them.

“Clara Montgomery, you walked out of the shadows, stood between me and an army of assassins, and taught a monster how to have a soul,” Dominic spoke from the depths of his heart.

“Will you do me the greatest honor of my life?”

“Will you marry me and rule this harbor beside me as my wife, my partner, and my queen?”

Tears of pure, unadulterated joy welled in Clara’s eyes as she pressed her fingertips against her lips.

“Yes, Dominic… a thousand times, yes,” she whispered through her tears.

Dominic slid the platinum ring onto her left ring finger, rising to his full height and pulling her into a fierce, passionate embrace as the ocean breeze swirled around them.

There were no more hidden traps, no more poisoned rings, no more shadows lurking in the east tunnel, and no more cold nights in a drafty studio.

The traitors were rotting in federal cells thousands of miles away, the Montgomery name was immortalized in stone and honor, and the harbor was at peace.

Hand in hand, with the sun rising high above the Boston skyline, Dominic and Clara looked out toward the infinite, brilliant horizon, ready to write the beautiful, unwritten chapters of tomorrow.
