Chapter 10 - The Mistress and the Senator

Inside the concrete interrogation suites of the Moakley Federal Courthouse, the alliance between father and daughter completely imploded under the weight of prison walls.

Separated by a reinforced glass partition in Interrogation Room C, Vivienne and Senator Thorne glared at each other with pure, venomous hatred.

“This is your fault, Vivienne!” Senator Thorne hissed into the telephone receiver, his tailored suit rumpled and reeking of fear.

“I told you to let the corporate lawyers handle the logistics acquisition quietly!”

“You insisted on using those street mercenaries from Jackson’s unit!”

Vivienne slammed the heavy plastic receiver against the glass partition, her mascara running in dark, jagged streaks down her cheeks.

“You wanted Dominic dead just as much as I did, Father!” Vivienne screamed back through the speaker.

“You were the one who ordered Jackson to plant the aconitine in the engagement ring!”

“You told me that if Dominic discovered the sixty-million-dollar money laundering pipeline, we would both spend thirty years in a federal penitentiary!”

Unknown to either of them, the room’s high-definition surveillance microphones were feeding directly into the federal prosecutor’s recording console.

Assistant United States Attorney Claire Montgomery sat in the observation booth beside Dominic and Clara, watching the traitors tear each other apart.

“We have both confessions fully authenticated on federal digital master files,” Prosecutor Montgomery said, closing her laptop with immense satisfaction.

“The grand jury has already returned ninety-two felony indictments against the entire Thorne financial network.”

“What about the recovery of my father’s stolen assets, Claire?” Clara asked, looking at the legal ledgers on the table.

“Every single square foot of the harbor property, the commercial shipping berths, and forty million dollars in restitution have been transferred to your private sovereign trust,” Claire confirmed warmly.

“You are officially the majority owner of the Port of Boston, Clara.”

Dominic stood up, adjusting his coat, looking at Clara with eyes that held an emotion deeper than any underworld alliance.

“Let’s leave these vipers in their cages, Clara,” Dominic said softly, extending his arm to her.

“You have an empire to rebuild, and we have a city to clean.”

May you like

Clara took his arm, stepping out of the federal building into the crisp, clean autumn sunshine of Boston Harbor.

The air had never tasted so fresh, and the future had never looked so boundless.
