Chapter 7 - The Ambush at the Clinic

Back on the third floor, the medical transplantation had been underway for three intense, grueling hours.

Inside the primary surgical cleanroom, Dr. Sarah Chen and her team worked with breathtaking, military precision.

Clara lay on the donor table, having surrendered four hundred milliliters of rich, healthy bone marrow from her iliac crest.

Despite the profound physical exhaustion and localized lumbar pain, her violet eyes remained wide open, watching the infusion lines carry her life-saving cells.

Through the adjoining glass partition, the bone marrow stem cells were being slowly infused into Caleb and Maya’s central venous lines.

The digital vitals monitors above the twins’ beds began to display subtle, miraculous shifts in cellular oxygenation.

Suddenly, the building’s primary electrical grid groaned under a massive external power surge, plunging the entire estate into pitch-black darkness.

The emergency red backup beacons flickered to life instantly, casting long, bloody shadows across the sterile white corridors.

The continuous hum of the ventilation system died, followed by the deafening roar of high-explosive breaching charges detonating at the outer gate.

“Roman!” Matteo’s voice crackled through my encrypted tactical earpiece with urgent, combat intensity.

“We have multiple heavy hostiles breaching the north perimeter road!”

“Three customized armored technical vehicles with heavy machine guns and sixteen foreign mercenary operators!”

“They are using military-grade frequency scramblers; they are here to destroy the clinical wing before the transplant completes!”

The Moreau Syndicate had realized that Julian’s communication was dead, and their board had activated their final, scorched-earth extraction protocol.

I reached into the emergency weapons locker behind the nurses’ station, pulling out a custom tactical carbine with an optical thermal scope.

I racked the charging handle with a crisp, lethal metallic snap that echoed down the quiet hallway.

I looked at Dr. Chen and her surgical team, who stood steadfast around my children’s beds despite the shaking floorboards.

“Do not stop that infusion, Dr. Chen,” I commanded in a voice of pure, unyielding iron.

“Nobody enters this room while I am drawing breath.”

I turned to Clara, who looked up from her recovery gurney, reaching out a weak, trembling hand to touch my sleeve.

“Protect our babies, Roman,” Clara whispered, her violet eyes shining with fierce, absolute faith.

I gently covered her hand with mine, my gaze locking onto hers with an unbreakable, eternal vow.

“I will burn this mountain to the ground before I let them touch our family, Clara.”

I stepped into the darkened corridor, my rifle raised, and walked toward the sound of gunfire like an avenging titan.
