Chapter 10 - The Unsealed Dossier

At eleven o'clock that morning, I returned to the third-floor clinical wing, where the air was clean, warm, and filled with quiet serenity.
Dr. Sarah Chen met me in the private consultation lounge, holding a digital tablet displaying the post-transplant cellular counts.
Her face was glowing with the profound, radiant joy of a physician who had just witnessed an absolute medical miracle.
“Roman, the donor marrow engraftment has taken hold with unprecedented speed,” Dr. Chen announced, her voice thick with emotion.
“Caleb and Maya’s platelet counts have tripled in the last six hours, and their healthy white blood cell production is climbing exponentially.”
“The toxic synthetic compounds have been completely neutralized by Clara’s matching antibodies.”
“They are officially in full, unassailable remission.”
I closed my eyes for two long seconds, taking a deep, shuddering breath as thirty years of armor and pain finally melted from my chest.
I walked into the recovery suite, where Clara sat propped up in her bed, wearing a soft cream sweater, sipping fresh mint tea.
In the two adjacent beds, Caleb and Maya were sitting upright against their pillows, their rosy cheeks glowing with vibrant, healthy color.
Caleb was eating a bowl of warm chicken soup with a big spoon, while Maya was happily brushing the hair of a stuffed plush bear.
When the twins saw me walk through the door, their violet eyes lit up with pure, boundless love.
“Daddy!” Maya squeaked, reaching her small, healthy arms out toward me.
“Daddy, look! My hands aren't cold anymore!”
I rushed to their bedsides, scooping both of my precious children into my arms and holding them tightly against my beating heart.
Caleb wrapped his arms around my neck, resting his forehead against my cheek, laughing with pure, childlike joy.
“Daddy, Aunt Clara told us space stories about Mommy,” Caleb whispered happily into my ear.
“She said Mommy is the brightest star in the sky, watching over us forever.”
Tears of overwhelming, unadulterated gratitude welled in my eyes as I kissed their soft foreheads a hundred times.
I looked over the edge of the bed at Clara, who was watching us with tears of pure joy streaming down her beautiful, smiling face.
I reached out with my right hand, gently wrapping my fingers around hers.
“You saved my entire world, Clara,” I whispered, my voice trembling with an emotion deeper than the ocean.

Clara smiled through her tears, squeezing my hand with profound, unbreakable warmth.
“We saved our family, Roman… together.”
