Chapter 12 - Administrative Leave

|
At 3:00 p.m., the corporate hammer finally fell.
Halcyon Medical officially placed Owen on unpaid administrative leave, completely locking him out of his corporate email, revoking his building access badge, and seizing his company-issued phone and laptop remotely.
However, Naomi Price was a brilliant, highly tactical compliance director. She didn't march him out of the building with security guards and accuse him of massive federal fraud. Instead, she quietly informed the executive staff that Owen was simply undergoing a "routine, mandatory compliance review" related to the upcoming forty-million-dollar bid.
Owen, blinded by his own massive ego, assumed he could easily charm and explain his way out of the situation.
My personal cell phone buzzed violently on Rachel’s conference table. It was a barrage of furious, rapid-fire text messages from Owen, sent from his personal device.
“You think you’re so smart sending that little revenge email to legal?” the first text read.
“You just embarrassed yourself again. You only managed to delay the contract signing by a few days with your hysterical lies.”
“I’m on paid leave until Monday while they clear this up. When I get back to the office, you are going to pay dearly for trying to damage my career.”
I read the toxic, threatening messages with total emotional detachment, as if I were reviewing the files of a complete stranger. The man I had spent eleven years building a life with was entirely gone, replaced by a desperate, cornered criminal throwing a temper tantrum.
I meticulously took screenshots of every single threatening text message, uploaded them to the secure cloud folder for Rachel, and then permanently blocked his phone number.

I systematically severed his financial lifelines, completely preventing him from draining our assets to hire a high-priced criminal defense attorney while pretending our marriage was just casually ending. He was bleeding out, and he didn't even realize the arteries had been cut.
