Chapter 8 - The Handcuffs of Ruin

Special Agent Marcus Cole of the Federal Bureau of Investigation stepped forward, displaying his gold credential shield to the entire assembly.

Behind him, six federal agents moved in with heavy steel handcuffs.

“Julian Vance and Victoria Vance-Thorne,” Agent Cole announced, his voice booming with legal finality.

“Under federal warrants issued by the United States District Court of Massachusetts, you are both placed under arrest.”

“The charges include two counts of attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit chemical terrorism, interstate corporate espionage, and sixty-four counts of federal wire fraud.”

Two agents grabbed Victoria by her slender arms, wrenching her hands behind her back.

The cold steel cuffs ratcheted tightly around her wrists with a sharp, metallic snap.

“Get your hands off me!” Victoria shrieked, kicking wildly as her expensive designer heels slipped on the polished floor.

“Do you know who my family is?! My grandfather founded this logistics network!”

“Your grandfather would have put a bullet in your head himself, Victoria,” Gabriel said without looking at her.

As she was dragged past the board members toward the elevator bank, she turned her venomous gaze onto Evelyn.

“You ruined everything, you cheap little clinician!” Victoria screamed, her face contorted with insane rage.

“Those brats should have died a year ago!”

Evelyn met her gaze with cool, unyielding disdain.

“Those boys are going to live long, beautiful lives, Victoria,” Evelyn said calmly.

“While you spend the rest of yours in a federal supermax facility in Florence, Colorado, staring at concrete walls until you rot.”

Meanwhile, two federal marshals hauled Julian Vance to his feet.

His expensive suit was rumpled, his hair falling into his eyes as he looked at Gabriel with pleading, pathetic desperation.

“Gabriel! Brother! Please don't let them take me to a federal pen!” Julian wept, falling to his knees before his former king.

“You know what the rival cartels will do to me in general population! They’ll slaughter me within forty-eight hours!”

Gabriel looked down at the man he had once called a brother.

His expression was completely devoid of hatred, anger, or warmth.

It was the total, absolute indifference of a titan who had already erased an insect from existence.

“You should have thought about the cartels, Julian,” Gabriel said quietly, turning his back on him.

“Before you made my children breathe poison in their sleep.”

The heavy elevator doors closed on Julian’s hysterical screams, sealing the fate of the traitors forever.
