Chapter 14 - The Berkshire Spring

Spring arrived in the Berkshire hills with an explosion of vibrant green leaves and blooming mountain wildflowers.

The heavy security checkpoints and thermal towers around the Thorne estate had been completely dismantled.

In their place, expansive horse pastures, manicured soccer fields, and blooming rose gardens transformed the once-dark fortress into a paradise of joy.

The grand windows of the estate were thrown wide open, allowing the crisp, fragrant mountain air and golden sunshine to fill every corridor.

Mrs. Gable, whose granddaughter Sarah had been safely rescued and reunited with her family by Gabriel’s security team, hummed happily as she baked fresh apple pies in the renovated kitchen.

Out on the lush green lawn, Noah and Ethan were sprinting after a golden retriever puppy Gabriel had surprised them with for their eighth birthday.

Their joyful laughter echoed across the valley, full of boundless vitality and strength.

Gabriel stood on the stone terrace, holding a pair of binoculars, watching his sons score a goal between two wooden posts.

He had traded his tactical weapons and armored coats for comfortable linen shirts and casual loafers.

The hard, razor-sharp lines of his face had softened, replaced by the relaxed, radiant warmth of a fulfilled man.

Evelyn walked out onto the terrace, carrying two glasses of freshly squeezed lemonade.

She wore a simple floral summer dress, her skin glowing in the afternoon sun.

She handed a glass to Gabriel, leaning her head comfortably against his broad shoulder as they watched the boys play.

“Look at them run,” Gabriel said softly, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her close against his side.

“Six months ago, I couldn't imagine hearing that sound again.”

“Life has a miraculous way of healing when you remove the venom, Gabriel,” Evelyn replied, turning her face up to meet his gaze.

Gabriel smiled, looking down at the woman who had transformed his entire universe.

“You did more than remove the venom, Evelyn,” he said, his voice filled with tender, unwavering passion.

“You gave me a reason to live.”
