Chapter 3 - The Traitor’s Price

The subterranean holding facility beneath the Thorne estate was constructed of reinforced poured concrete and soundproof steel bulkheads.
Dr. Alistair Finch was strapped tightly to a cold industrial steel chair, his expensive charcoal blazer torn down the middle and his platinum glasses smashed on the floor.
His face was covered in a cold sweat, his breath hitching in terror as the heavy steel door swung open on heavy hydraulic hinges.
Gabriel entered first, followed by Evelyn and two tactical operatives carrying Finch’s biometric-locked ruggedized laptop.
“Gabriel! Please, this is a grotesque misunderstanding!” Finch shrieked, struggling frantically against the heavy nylon zip-ties binding his wrists to the chair frame.
“That unqualified woman is manipulating you with fraudulent theories!”
“I have dedicated three years of my life to preserving the Thorne bloodline!”
Gabriel did not utter a single word.
He walked slowly across the concrete floor, grabbed a steel medical tray, and threw it violently against the wall.
The deafening clang echoed through the bunker, silencing Finch’s frantic excuses in an instant.
Evelyn walked forward, opening the ruggedized laptop and placing a portable cryptographic bypass drive into the side USB port.
“Dr. Finch, you made three fatal administrative errors,” Evelyn said, typing rapidly on the keyboard as code scrolled across the high-resolution screen.
“First, you used the Thorne estate’s private satellite uplink to verify the batch numbers of the synthetic ester shipments from a private biotech firm in Antwerp.”
“Second, your Swiss bank account in Lugano received a two-hundred-thousand-dollar monthly stipend routed through a Panamanian shell company.”
“And third,” Evelyn turned the laptop screen toward him, displaying a high-resolution wire-transfer receipt.
“The authorization signature on those offshore payments belongs to a trust entity named ‘Nautilus Maritime Holdings.’”
Finch’s eyes widened until the whites were completely bloodshot, his jaw dropping in absolute terror.
Gabriel’s entire posture locked into stone.

Nautilus Maritime Holdings was not a rival cartel’s front company.
It was the private holding company established by Gabriel’s deceased wife, Genevieve Thorne, before her tragic death in the harbor explosion four years ago.
“Speak,” Gabriel commanded, his voice dropping into a register that shook the concrete foundations beneath their feet.
“Who is using Genevieve’s signature to systematically murder my twin sons?”
Finch began to weep uncontrollably, his arrogance completely shattered by the incontrovertible digital evidence.
“It wasn't a rival syndicate, Gabriel!” Finch sobbed, urine visibly spreading across the fabric of his trousers.
“Genevieve didn't die alone in that harbor blast!”
“Her younger sister, Victoria… she orchestrated the entire explosion to fake Genevieve’s demise and seize the European trust!”
“Victoria has been living under an assumed diplomatic identity in Zurich for four years!”
“She said that as long as Noah and Ethan were alive, the Thorne family trust would automatically lock her out of the forty-billion-dollar maritime inheritance!”
“She paid me to make their deaths look like a natural genetic tragedy so she could step in as the sole surviving legal guardian of the Thorne estate!”
Gabriel’s face went completely blank—a terrifying void of emotion that signaled an impending catastrophe of biblical proportions.
“Where is Victoria right now, Finch?” Gabriel whispered.

“She arrived in Boston two days ago on a private diplomatic charter,” Finch stammered, teeth chattering violently.
“She is meeting your corporate board of directors tomorrow morning at the Thorne Tower to force an emergency succession vote!”
