Chapter 11 - The Raid on Bellini’s Fortress

While the federal paperwork was being finalized, a team of twenty tactical marshals executed a final raid on Bellini’s private estate in Lake Forest.
The sprawling forty-acre compound was stripped of its stolen luxury: vintage sports cars, imported Italian artwork, and millions in blood diamonds.
Inside Bellini’s private master bedroom safe, federal examiners recovered the original handwritten journals Julian had kept during his final months.
The journals contained detailed naval blueprints, poetry written for Elena, and the first ultrasound scan of little Chloe taken four years ago.
I walked into the ransacked estate, accompanied by Leo Rossi, who carried a velvet-lined wooden box.
I retrieved my brother’s journals from the evidence table, running my fingers over his familiar handwriting with deep, reverent sorrow.
On the final page of the last notebook, Julian had drawn a small sketch of a soaring hawk protecting a tiny sparrow beneath its wings.
Beneath the drawing was a single sentence: Vincent is the hawk who guards our nest.
“Boss, we found the key to Julian’s private workshop at the marina,” Leo reported, handing me a small brass key with a leather tag.
“Julian had been building a wooden sailboat for Chloe before the ambush four years ago.”
I closed the journal, placing it securely inside the velvet box alongside my brother’s silver watch.
“Have the sailboat transported to the boathouse at my estate, Leo,” I instructed softly.
“We are going to finish building that boat with our own hands.”
I looked around the empty, cold rooms of Bellini’s mansion, feeling no hatred, no anger, only the profound peace of a debt paid in full.
