Chapter 9 - The Eviction from Beacon Hill

At two o'clock that afternoon, three county sheriff cruisers and two commercial moving flatbeds pulled up to the historic Beacon Hill brownstone.

A crowd of high-society neighbors, journalists, and local residents gathered on the cobblestone sidewalk under the cold winter sun.

Sheriff Deputy Miller stood on the granite portico, holding an official writ of immediate property foreclosure and asset forfeiture.

Inside the grand mansion, private security officers were methodically packing Arthur and Beatrice’s luxury possessions into cardboard boxes.

The imported oil paintings, the antique silverware, the vintage wine collection, and Cassandra’s designer wardrobe were tagged with yellow federal seizure labels.

Arthur, Beatrice, and Cassandra were escorted to the curb under armed federal bail supervision to collect their personal clothing before transport to the detention center.

Cassandra stood on the wet sidewalk in a drab grey overcoat, shivering in the freezing wind, watching her private shoe collection loaded onto the truck.

Her social media channels had been permanently terminated by the platforms following the viral release of the dining room video.

Over twenty million people had watched her mock a starving pregnant woman, turning her name into the most despised hashtag in North America.

Arthur walked up the stone steps, leaning heavily on a wooden cane, his eyes hollow and defeated as he looked at Ethan standing in the doorway.

“Ethan… this brownstone has been in the Thorne name for four generations,” Arthur rasped, his voice trembling with pathetic despair.

“You cannot cast your own parents out onto the street with nothing.”

Ethan stepped onto the portico wearing his charcoal wool coat, holding the original certified deed to the property in his hands.

“This brownstone ceased to be yours three years ago, Arthur,” Ethan revealed with chilling serenity.

“When you defaulted on your secondary mortgage, my wife, Elena, purchased the sovereign promissory note using her independent architectural trust.”

“Elena owns every brick, every timber, and every square inch of this soil.”

“And under Section Four of the Massachusetts Property Act, she has officially declared you unlawful trespassers on her land.”

Deputy Miller stepped forward, handing Arthur three black plastic garbage bags containing their basic toiletries and a change of clothes.

“You have five minutes to clear the perimeter, Mr. Thorne, or you will be transported directly to the Nashua Street Jail.”

Arthur looked at the magnificent brownstone he had ruled for thirty years, tears of pure, agonizing humiliation cutting through the grime on his cheeks.

He turned his back on the house, clutching his plastic garbage bag, and walked down the cobblestone street in the freezing rain alongside his weeping wife and daughter.

They had entered the week believing they were the untouchable rulers of a tech empire; they were leaving it as penniless felons with garbage bags in their hands.
