Chapter 10 - The Sanctuary in Weston

At four o'clock that afternoon, Ethan arrived at the private, sunlit medical pavilion nestled in the rolling pine hills of Weston, Massachusetts.

The private estate was quiet, warm, and secure, surrounded by blooming indoor gardens and the gentle hum of advanced medical equipment.

In the master recovery suite, Elena was sitting upright in a plush velvet armchair, wearing a soft cream cashmere sweater.

Her pale cheeks had regained their healthy, radiant glow, her IV lines having fully restored her hydration and vital nutrients.

Five-year-old Toby was sitting on the soft wool rug at her feet, happily building a magnificent wooden railway track with his new train set.

When Toby heard Ethan’s footsteps, he dropped his wooden train, scrambled up from the floor, and sprinted across the room with arms wide open.

“Daddy! Daddy!” Toby cheered, leaping into Ethan’s open arms with pure, unadulterated joy.

Ethan caught his son effortlessly, lifting the brave little boy against his chest and burying his face into his soft hair.

Tears of overwhelming, unshakeable gratitude welled in Ethan’s eyes as he held his son tightly against his beating heart.

“Look, Daddy! Mommy got warm soup, and the nice doctor gave me strawberries!” Toby beamed, pointing at the fruit basket on the table.

“No more stale bread, buddy,” Ethan whispered softly, his voice thick with raw emotion.

“You and Mommy will have the sweetest fruit in the world every single day for the rest of your lives.”

He set Toby down gently by his train set, walking over to where Elena sat with tears of pure joy streaming down her beautiful face.

Ethan knelt beside her chair, gently taking her bruised hands into his, pressing his lips against her knuckles with endless devotion.

“They are in federal chains, Elena,” Ethan murmured softly, looking into her hazel eyes.

“Arthur, Beatrice, and Cassandra will never step foot near you or our children again.”

Elena reached out, her trembling fingers gently tracing the line of his jaw, resting her hand against his cheek.

“You came back for us, Ethan,” she whispered through her tears.

“I will always come back for you, my love,” Ethan promised, resting his forehead gently against hers.

“You are my sanctuary, and I will tear down any empire that tries to dim your light.”
