Chapter 4 - THE SECRET ACCOUNT

The Wells account contained money from Caspian.
Not loan proceeds.
“Management fees.”
Caspian had paid Evelyn Beauty Holdings $26,000 per month for twelve months.
On paper, Elena’s company was a consultant to Julian’s pharmaceutical venture.
In reality, she had performed no work.
Why send money into her company?
Monica answered:
“Layering.”
Not necessarily illegal by itself.
But suspicious.
The money then moved to another account.
Most of it.
Recipient:
Hale Strategic Partners.
Julian’s personal company.
Elena stared.
He had created a paper trail making it appear her business received money and then transferred it to him.
If investigators later questioned Caspian funds, Julian could say Elena participated.
Again.
Use her company.
Use her name.
Use her supposed ignorance.
Then Priya found a disturbing detail.
The Wells account login email:
Vanessa Grant’s work address.
Elena laughed without humor.
“My husband’s mistress manages a bank account in my company’s name.”
Monica nodded.
“And you’re not touching a dollar.”
“Obviously.”
They sent preservation notices to the bank and lender.
No account closure.
No retaliation.
Evidence first.
Then Elena’s attorney filed divorce papers.
Not served yet.
Friday.
Day five.
Everything aligned.
Elena also changed business access to her salons.
Not marital accounts.
Only her companies where she clearly had authority.
Passwords rotated.
Dual approval implemented.
Priya added.
Julian removed.
He noticed that evening.
“What did you do?”
Elena looked up from dinner.
“To what?”
“My access to Evelyn Beauty.”
“My company.”
“I helped structure it.”
“You suggested an LLC.”
“I handled financing.”
There.
He realized what he said.
Elena put down her fork.
“What financing?”
Julian froze.
Then recovered.
“Years ago.”
“Which loan?”
Silence.
Vanessa walked into the dining room without knocking.
Apparently boundaries remained theoretical.
“You told her?”
Julian turned.
“No.”
Too late.
Elena looked at Vanessa.
“Told me what?”
Vanessa’s face changed.
She had walked into a trap built entirely by her own mouth.
“I assumed…”
Elena waited.
Vanessa looked at Julian.
He looked furious.
Then:
“Nothing.”
Elena smiled.
“Good night.”
She stood.
Vanessa snapped:
“You think your little salons make you some businesswoman now?”
Elena stopped.
Then turned.
“My little salons employ twelve people.”
“Fourteen,” Priya had reminded her that morning.
She corrected herself.
“Fourteen.”
Vanessa rolled her eyes.
“Julian works with companies worth billions.”
“And yet he needed mine to guarantee his loan.”
Silence.
Julian stood.
“What did you say?”
There it was.
Elena held his gaze.
“I said five days.”
Then walked upstairs.
Behind her, Vanessa whispered:
“She knows.”
Julian answered:
“How much?”
Vanessa:
“Enough.”
The home system captured both words.
Again.
Evidence.
Then a new email arrived from Monica.
Subject:
Caspian lender file.
One attachment.
An insurance policy.
Key-person coverage.
Insured:
Elena Marquez-Hale.
Benefit:
$1.5 million.
Owner:
May you like
Caspian Medical Distribution.
Elena had never authorized that either.
