Chapter 8 - The Financial Annihilation

Before Julian could utter another desperate lie, Kaelen walked onto the stage carrying a leather-bound portfolio bearing the gold seal of the United States Treasury.

He placed the documents onto the visualizer podium, projecting the financial filings directly onto the giant screens.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the board,” Kaelen’s voice rang out with absolute legal authority.

“As of 8:00 PM this evening, the Hawthorne Sovereign Trust has officially been re-activated under the sole signature of Miss Elena Hawthorne.”

“Under Section 14 of the Massachusetts Maritime Compact, the Hawthorne Trust has exercised its right of immediate foreclosure on all outstanding debt collateralizing Croft Global.”

Julian’s knees buckled, and he collapsed heavily against the wooden podium.

“No… no, that’s impossible!” Julian screamed, clutching his hair with both hands.

“We have a revolving credit facility with Citibank and JPMorgan!”

“Not anymore, Julian,” Silas Mercer’s deep voice resonated across the ballroom as he stepped onto the stage beside me.

“The Mercer Syndicate purchased eighty-two percent of your corporate debt from the London secondary market at 4:00 PM today.”

“We have called in every loan with immediate zero-day maturity.”

On the giant digital screens, the real-time stock ticker for Croft Global turned into a vertical crimson bloodbath.

One hundred and twenty dollars per share.

Eighty dollars.

Thirty dollars.

Within ninety seconds, trading was halted as the share price crashed to twelve cents, wiping out six billion dollars of Croft family wealth before the eyes of the entire city.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts Port Authority walked to the front of the stage, tearing up a multi-million-dollar terminal lease in front of the cameras.

“The Port Authority hereby revokes all docking privileges for Croft vessels,” the official announced coldly.

“We will not do business with monsters who attempt infanticide.”

Julian crawled forward on his hands and knees across the stage floor, dragging his injured leg through the floral arrangements, stopping inches from my designer heels.

Tears, snot, and sweat ran down his face in an ugly, pathetic smear.

“Elena… my love… please!” Julian wept, reaching his trembling hands toward the hem of my velvet trousers.

“I made a mistake! The pressure of the merger drove me insane!”

“They are my daughters! We can raise them together in Tuscany! I will give you everything!”

I stepped back with surgical grace, letting his fingers scrape uselessly against the hardwood stage.

“You will never touch these children again, Julian,” I said, my voice echoing with an absolute finality that shook the room.

“And you will spend the rest of your miserable life paying for every drop of blood I spilled on that frozen concrete.”
