Chapter 9 - THE FAMILY WAR

:

The pounding grew louder.

Victor's security team had found us.

Marcus opened the emergency system.

“We have three minutes.”

Victoria looked at me.

“Do you trust me?”

“No.”

She smiled faintly.

“Good.”

For the first time, we stood together.

Sisters.

Enemies.

Heirs.

We activated the Blackwood Trust.

The system demanded two fingerprints.

Mine.

Then hers.

The vault unlocked.

Across Manhattan, screens began changing.

News networks interrupted programming.

Financial markets froze.

Confidential documents began appearing online.

The world saw what Victor Thorne had hidden for decades.

But one file remained encrypted.

Marcus stared at it.

“What is that?”

Daniel answered:

“Victor's final confession.”

The file opened.

Victor appeared on screen.

Older.

Weak.

Sitting in a dark room.

“My family always believed power came from money.”

He laughed.

“They were wrong.”

Then he looked directly into the camera.

“Power comes from controlling what people are afraid to lose.”

He revealed the final secret.

Daniel was not his biological son.

Noah was not his biological son.

Neither was Victoria.

Victor had stolen children from powerful families and used them as replacements, identities, and leverage.

I stared at the screen.

“What about me?”

Victor smiled.

“You, Clara, were the only child he could never control.”

The video ended.

Then the door opened.

Victor stood there.

Alive.

Older than I remembered.

But unmistakable.

My mother screamed.

“No.”

Victor looked at her.

“You always were sentimental.”

Victoria raised the gun.

Victor didn't flinch.

“Go ahead.”

She couldn't.

Victor smiled.

“You want revenge.”

He looked at me.

“But revenge is exactly what I taught you.”

I stepped forward.

“You murdered my father.”

“No.”

He paused.

“I made him disappear.”

“Where is he?”

Victor's expression changed.

For the first time, fear appeared.

“That's the one question you should never ask.”

Behind him, a hidden door opened.

An elderly man was sitting inside.

Gray hair.

Weak body.

But the same eyes as mine.

My father's eyes.

My knees nearly collapsed.

“Dad?”

He looked at me.

Tears filled his eyes.

“Clara.”

The world stopped.

He had been alive all these years.

And Victor had kept him hidden beneath the empire we were now destroying.

My father reached toward me.

Then he whispered:

“Don't trust your mother.”

I turned.

My mother was gone.

The vault door slammed shut.

And somewhere above us, every news network announced the same breaking headline:

THE BLACKWOOD HEIRS ARE AT WAR.
