Part 8: The Fall of Vanessa

Part 8: The Fall of Vanessa
Vanessa Whitmore had long built her entire identity on her precarious social status. She was a permanent fixture in high society, the self-appointed chairperson of several elite charity boards, and a social media influencer who openly sneered at anyone who didn't possess a trust fund or wear haute couture.
That afternoon, she arrived at the Grand Gala Committee meeting, expecting her usual front-row seat at the mahogany conference table. Instead, she found the atmosphere icy. The committee president, an old-money matriarch named Eleanor Sterling, blocked her path at the door.
"Vanessa, dear," Eleanor said, her voice dripping with artificial, razor-sharp sweetness. "I think it is best if you step down from the board. Effective immediately. Your resignation has already been drafted."
"What? Why?" Vanessa gasped, clutching her Chanel handbag tightly against her chest. "My family has funded this gala for five years!"
Eleanor held up a tablet. The video of the dinner party had leaked to the mainstream press. It wasn't just corporate financial news anymore; it was a global, viral public relations disaster. The internet had collectively dubbed Diane "The Bucket Witch," and Vanessa’s recorded sneers about "girls like her mistaking tolerance for equality" were playing on a continuous loop across every major news network.

"Aureum Dominion is our primary corporate donor this fiscal year," Eleanor explained smoothly, not a single hint of warmth in her eyes. "Ms. Elena Vale’s representatives made it perfectly clear this morning: if any member of the Whitmore family remains associated with this charity, the ten-million-dollar endowment will be permanently and irrevocably withdrawn. We cannot afford your brand of trash, Vanessa. Goodbye."
As Vanessa stumbled out of the building, her phone began buzzing frantically in her hand. Luxury fashion brands were releasing public statements distancing themselves from her, canceling her contracts, and revoking her VIP memberships. Her entire social circle had vanished into thin air in a matter of hours.
