Chapter 7 - Corporate Foreclosure

The following morning, the financial district of Manhattan was buzzing with intense corporate drama.
Inside the glass-walled boardroom of Sterling Logistics on Wall Street, Arthur Sterling sat at the head of a long mahogany table. Sweat dripped down his neck, soaking the collar of his expensive shirt. Surrounding him were six mid-level executives, two company accountants, and Eleanor, who sat rigid in a chair near the corner, her face caked in heavy makeup to hide the dark circles under her eyes.
They had spent the night in a cheap airport hotel after being unceremoniously evicted from the Upper East Side penthouse at noon.
"We just need to secure the emergency bridge loan," Arthur insisted nervously, wiping his forehead with a handkerchief. "Once the board approves the debt restructuring, we can re-lease the penthouse and clear the back taxes. It's just a temporary liquidity bottleneck!"
"Mr. Sterling," one of the board accountants said grimly, looking at his laptop. "You don't understand. The bridge loan was denied twenty minutes ago. The creditor who purchased your defaulted commercial paper has called in the entire balance. They are filing for immediate Chapter 7 involuntary liquidation."
"What?" Eleanor shrieked, standing up. "Who purchased our paper? Call our bank! Call Arthur's contacts!"
"There's no need to make calls, Eleanor," a cool, composed voice announced from the doorway.
The boardroom doors swung open.
Two armed private security officers stepped in, holding the doors open for Sarah Vance. She walked into the room wearing a tailored charcoal-gray pantsuit, flanked by her uncle Marcus and a team of four high-powered corporate bankruptcy attorneys.
Arthur jumped to his feet, his mouth agape. "Sarah? What... what are you doing here? This is a private corporate meeting!"
"Not anymore, Arthur," Sarah said calmly, pulling out the head chair at the opposite end of the boardroom table and taking a seat. "As of yesterday at 4:00 PM, V-Cap Investments holds 100% of your primary debt obligations. Since you have failed to make three consecutive quarterly interest payments, I have exercised my right as majority lienholder to assume full voting control of Sterling Logistics."
Eleanor rushed forward, pointing a shaking finger at Sarah. "You treacherous snake! You stole our home, and now you come to ruin my son's business? Security, throw this woman out!"
The two security guards at the door didn't move. In fact, one of them stepped forward and blocked Eleanor from approaching Sarah.
"The security guards work for the building, Mrs. Sterling," Marcus Vance said smoothly, placing a stack of legal documents on the table. "And as of ten minutes ago, V-Cap Investments has also acquired the lease to this corporate suite. You and your son are currently trespassing on private property."
"You can't do this!" Arthur cried out, his voice cracking with desperation. "Sarah, please! We were married for twelve years! I loved you!"
"You didn't love me, Arthur," Sarah said, her voice devoid of any warmth or emotion. "You loved my paycheck. You loved the fact that I paid your rent, funded your mother's luxury lifestyle, and kept your fragile ego intact while you carried on an affair with Valerie behind my back."
Arthur’s jaw dropped. He looked at Eleanor, then back at Sarah, his eyes filled with sheer panic. "Sarah... Valerie... it was a mistake! She's carrying my child! I had to do right by my heir!"
Sarah gave a cold, faint smile. She reached into her briefcase and pulled out a fresh stack of legal notices.
"She isn't carrying your child, Arthur," Sarah said loudly, ensuring every executive in the room heard every word. "And even if she were, you are biologically incapable of fathering children. Here is the certified pathology report confirming your permanent sterility, alongside the DNA results proving that Valerie's baby belongs to Eleanor's private physician."
The boardroom broke into absolute chaos.

The executives gasped, whispering frantically among themselves. Arthur looked at the documents, his face turning ghost-white. He turned slowly toward his mother, his eyes filled with a terrifying mixture of confusion and horror.
"Mother...?" Arthur whispered. "What is she talking about? Is... is this true?"
