Chapter 14 - The True Vows in Newport

One year to the day after the dramatic confrontation at the Plaza Hotel, the golden summer sun rose over the majestic coastal bluffs of Newport, Rhode Island.

The private oceanfront estate of the Vance family was bathed in radiant, warm light, surrounded by blooming white hydrangeas and the sweet scent of saltwater.

Only thirty of our closest, truest friends and trusted allies gathered on the private seaside lawn for our official public vow renewal.

A symphony orchestra played soft, beautiful classical melodies as the gentle Atlantic waves crashed rhythmically against the cliffs below.

I walked down the white petal-strewn aisle wearing a breathtaking, custom-embroidered ivory silk wedding gown with a flowing cathedral veil.

At the end of the aisle stood Dominic, looking magnificent in a bespoke black tuxedo, his dark eyes glowing with an intensity of love and devotion that took my breath away.

When I reached the altar, Dominic took both of my hands into his, gently lifting my veil to look into my eyes.

“Three years ago, you married me in a quiet civil chapel to protect me from the wolves in your family, Vivienne,” Dominic spoke from the depths of his soul.

“You endured their cruelty in silence, shielded my name, and stood as the bravest woman I have ever known.”

“Today, before the world and beneath this open sky, I vow to spend every remaining breath of my life being your shield, your partner, and your greatest champion.”

Tears of pure, unadulterated joy spilled over my eyelashes as I looked into the eyes of the man who had given me my life back.

“Dominic, you walked into the storm, lifted me out of the freezing water, and taught me that true power is found in love and truth,” I whispered.

“I choose you today, tomorrow, and for all eternity.”

The minister pronounced us husband and wife before the cheering guests, and Dominic swept me into a fierce, passionate embrace as the ocean breeze swirled around my veil.

The heavy chains of the past were completely shattered, replaced by the boundless, brilliant promise of an unbreakable love.
