Chapter 12 - The Rebirth of the Montgomery Empire

One month later, the grand ballroom of the New York Stock Exchange was packed to maximum capacity with international financial leaders and civic dignitaries.

Above the trading floor, the gigantic digital display board illuminated in brilliant, polished silver: THE KATHERINE MONTGOMERY GLOBAL MARITIME GROUP.

The massive opening bell rang through the historic hall, signaling the official public restoration of my grandmother’s multi-billion-dollar logistics conglomerate.

I stepped up to the ceremonial balcony wearing an exquisite, hand-tailored royal-sapphire power suit, surrounded by my board of directors.

Beside me stood Dominic, looking magnificent in a bespoke three-piece charcoal suit, his arm wrapped proudly around my waist.

The entire trading floor erupted into thunderous, standing applause as financial traders and executives raised their hands to honor the new chairperson.

I stepped up to the microphone, looking out over the sea of cheering faces with boundless gratitude and poise.

“Twenty years ago, a great woman built a maritime empire on the principles of integrity, fair wages, and unshakeable honor,” I spoke in a clear, resonant voice.

“Today, we reclaim that legacy from the shadows of corporate greed and dedicate our resources to building a better future.”

“The Montgomery Foundation is establishing a fifty-million-dollar permanent endowment to provide emergency legal, medical, and housing support for survivors of domestic abuse across this nation.”

“No woman in this city will ever be forced to remain in the dark because she lacks the resources to fight for her freedom.”

The applause was deafening, echoing off the historic neoclassical pillars and reaching toward the high vaulted ceiling.

Reporters from every major global news network snapped photos of Dominic and me standing together beneath the shining silver company emblem.

The awkward, invisible sister who had been mocked as a spinster was now officially recognized as one of the most powerful corporate leaders in the United States.
