Chapter 11 - The Federal Raid

The high-society guests backed away in stunned anticipation as the drama escalated in the center of the grand foyer.
Eleanor attempted to summon the Symphony Center’s private security guards, pointing a trembling, manicured finger at Alexander and me.
“Security! Remove these trespassers from the gala immediately! They are disrupting a private philanthropic event!”
The head of security did not move an inch; he stood at attention beside two federal marshals who stepped into the center of the foyer.
I raised my hand slightly, signaling Marcus Cole, who stood at the primary audio-visual control console on the mezzanine.
The gigantic high-definition projection screens suspended above the grand atrium flickered to life in brilliant 8K clarity.
Instead of the scheduled symphony program, the screens broadcasted the authenticated text messages and audio recordings between Julian Sterling and Chloe Laurent.
Julian’s recorded voice boomed through the concert hall’s state-of-the-art surround sound system:
”Once Vivienne is locked in the psychiatric clinic after the wedding, we’ll take her ninety-million-dollar portfolio and buy that vineyard in Bordeaux.”
The entire ballroom gasped in collective, horrified revulsion as the messages detailed the extortion plot, the fake prenup, and the poisoning of Marcus Sterling.
Chloe Laurent let out a blood-curdling shriek, dropping her diamond clutch as she attempted to sprint toward the service exits.
Two female federal agents blocked her path, grabbing her by the arms and forcing her against the marble wall with professional efficiency.
“Chloe Laurent, you are under arrest for interstate extortion, federal wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit grand larceny,” the lead agent declared, snapping steel handcuffs around her wrists.
Eleanor began to sway on her feet, clutching her chest as her entire social world, built on thirty years of murder and lies, collapsed into ruins before her eyes.
Special Agent Marcus Reed walked down the grand marble staircase, holding an unsealed federal RICO arrest warrant stamped with red wax.
“Eleanor Sterling, under Federal Indictment 4402, your bail is officially revoked with prejudice,” Agent Reed announced in a booming voice.
“You are charged with first-degree premeditated murder, federal securities fraud, interstate racketeering, and grand larceny.”
As the heavy steel handcuffs clicked around Eleanor’s wrists, her black velvet gown was dragged across the parquet floor amidst the blinding strobe of a hundred press cameras.

She looked at me with eyes burning with pure, unadulterated venom, spitting curses as the federal marshals pulled her toward the waiting transport vans.
I stood tall beside Alexander beneath the shimmering golden chandeliers, raising my crystal glass of sparkling water to toast the final, glorious death of the Sterling masquerade.
