Chapter 9 - The Bloodline Charter

As we crossed the Illinois state line at eighty miles per hour, Zachary handed me his encrypted tablet. "Open the folder labeled Project Sovereign; there is one more secret you need to read before we reach the courthouse."
I entered the decryption passkey, and a series of high-resolution scanned medical documents from twenty-eight years ago appeared on the screen. My eyes widened in complete shock as I read the biological lineage records from the Boston Maternity Hospital.
"You aren't an unrelated orphan Victoria adopted for corporate succession," I whispered, reading the DNA match report in utter disbelief. "You are my father's biological nephew—the son of his estranged younger sister who passed away in Boston!"
Zachary nodded quietly, his knuckles white against the steering wheel. "Victoria discovered my mother's identity in the hospital archives thirty years ago and adopted me under a sealed court order."
"She kept you in the dark for your entire life so she could use your bloodline to claim the Vance heritage if my father died without a male heir," I realized, the horrifying genius of Victoria's multi-decade conspiracy sending chills down my spine. "She raised you as a pawn to conquer the very family you belonged to by birth."
"When your father met me in Gary, he showed me the birth certificates," Zachary said, a single tear cutting through the soot on his cheek. "He told me that I was not a weapon built to destroy the Vance family; I was the guardian sent to protect it."
The full magnitude of my father's wisdom and foresight settled over my heart like an impenetrable shield. David Vance had not left me defenseless; he had placed his own flesh and blood beside me to ensure the truth would survive.
"We aren't going to the federal courthouse first, Zachary," I said, my voice hardening into pure, unyielding diamond.
Zachary glanced at me in surprise. "Sienna, the midnight deadline is in forty minutes; if we don't file with Judge Vance, the assets transfer automatically!"

"Judge Vance can receive the digital filing remotely using Arthur's encrypted federal uplink," I replied, typing rapidly on the tablet. "We are driving directly to the Lake Forest estate to deliver the indictment to Victoria in front of her own cameras."
Zachary looked at the road ahead, a fierce, triumphant smile breaking across his exhausted face. "Then hold on tight, cousin... because we are about to crash the party of the century."
