Chapter 9 - Dismantling the Dynasty

At nine o'clock the following morning, the Virginia State Bar Association convened an emergency closed-door hearing in their historic Richmond headquarters. Julian Sterling, Bradley’s uncle and the reigning chairman of the regulatory board, stood at the podium, furiously slamming his mahogany gavel against the sounding block.
"This emergency assembly will come to order!" Julian roared, glaring at the assembled board of directors. "I have drafted a resolution condemning the unlawful military detention of my nephew Bradley and demanding the immediate dismissal of all federal charges!"
The double doors at the rear of the grand auditorium swung open with a loud, resounding thud that silenced the room instantly. A detachment of armed Federal Marshals, accompanied by the United States Deputy Attorney General, marched down the center aisle in lockstep.
"Julian Sterling, by order of the United States District Court, you are relieved of your duties as Chairman of the State Bar," announced Deputy Attorney General Catherine Vance, displaying a sealed federal indictment. "Your license to practice law in all fifty states has been permanently revoked by executive decree."
Julian’s face turned an ugly shade of purple as he pointed a trembling finger at the federal agents. "You cannot do this! This is a state institution! We are an autonomous constitutional body!"
"You were an autonomous body until you accepted two point four million dollars in laundered drug cartel funds through your private trust accounts," Catherine Vance replied, stepping onto the dais and replacing his gavel with a pair of steel handcuffs. "And until you drafted the non-disclosure agreements that concealed the murder of Rachel Holloway in 2021."
Murmurs of absolute shock rippled through the assembled attorneys and judges as Julian was pushed face-first against the very podium he had ruled for over a decade. The television news crews waiting outside the building broadcast the live footage of his arrest to over twenty million viewers across the country.

Simultaneously, federal asset forfeiture teams were seizing the Sterling law offices, freezing sixty-four private corporate accounts, and padlock-sealing their private yacht club slips in Virginia Beach. The entire infrastructure of influence that Bradley had boasted about was being systematically dismantled, piece by piece, dollar by dollar.
In less than twenty-four hours, the name Sterling had transformed from a symbol of untouchable Southern aristocracy into the most disgraced criminal syndicate in modern American history. The walls were closing in, and there was no backroom judge left on the bench to answer their desperate phone calls.
