Chapter 10 - THE REUNION CLAIRE HAD DREAMED OF

The letter changed everything.

Claire had left one final message that could only be opened after Emma and Noah were reunited.

For days, I carried a copy of the envelope in my briefcase.

I didn't open it.

Not because I wasn't curious.

Because Claire had trusted me with one last request.

And this time, I intended to honor it.

The legal process surrounding Noah's adoption remained complicated.

Investigators confirmed that the original transfer documents contained forged signatures.

The Harringtons had adopted Noah in good faith.

They were devastated when they learned what happened.

Allison cried during our second meeting.

"I thought his mother had chosen us."

I nodded.

"I know."

She looked at me.

"I love him more than anything."

My throat tightened.

"So do I."

For a moment, we stood in silence.

Then I said something that surprised us both.

"I don't want Noah to lose the people who raised him."

Allison covered her mouth.

"Thank you."

I shook my head.

"Claire asked me not to take him away from the people he loves."

Tears spilled down her cheeks.

Together with the attorneys and child specialists, we began discussing a plan that protected Noah's stability while allowing him to know his biological family.

Nothing would be rushed.

Nothing would be decided simply because I had money.

For once, money wasn't the answer.

Patience was.

The first sibling meeting took place at Sunrise.

Emma wore her favorite mint bow.

She'd spent the entire morning asking whether Noah liked dinosaurs.

When he arrived, she froze.

He froze too.

For several seconds, they simply stared.

Then Emma whispered:

"Noah?"

He nodded.

She stepped closer.

"I'm Emma."

He smiled shyly.

"I know."

Emma's eyes widened.

Then she threw her arms around him.

Noah stumbled backward.

But he hugged her.

I turned away.

I couldn't stop crying.

Margaret stood beside me.

"Claire would have loved this."

I nodded.

I wished she could have seen it.

The children spent the afternoon drawing, building blocks, and arguing over whether a triceratops could defeat a T. rex.

It was ordinary.

Beautiful.

And heartbreaking.

At sunset, Emma brought me the wooden box.

"Daddy, Mommy said you'd know when."

I looked at Allison.

She nodded.

Noah stood beside his sister.

Together, they placed the sealed envelope in my hands.

I opened it.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

And a small photograph.

Claire holding both babies in her hospital room.

Tears filled my eyes.

I read the first line.

Michael, if Emma and Noah are together, then the one thing I prayed for has finally happened.

I covered my mouth.

Then I continued.

But there's something else you need to know.

I discovered who took Noah from the hospital.

And Michael, Daniel wasn't working alone.

My hands began shaking.

The next sentence made my blood turn cold.

Someone inside your family helped him.

I looked up.

My family?

I had no living parents.

No siblings.

Only one relative remained.

My uncle.

Charles Rivers.

The man who had raised me after my parents died.

And the man currently serving as chairman of Rivers Capital.

May you like

Claire's final sentence confirmed my worst fear.

Michael, Charles knew about both children before you did.
