Chapter 7 - The Desperate Poison

While our family was securing the sovereign assets in Zurich, a sinister conspiracy was unfolding in the shadows of Chicago.
Richard Sterling sat in his high-rise corporate office in the Loop, his hands shaking violently as he reviewed the international wire alerts flashing on his terminal.
Beside him stood Victoria, her face twisted in manic, unhinged desperation, clutching a small amber glass bottle filled with clear liquid.
“The Swiss bank just notified our legal team that the Orion vault was breached at noon today, Father!” Victoria screamed, slamming her purse onto the mahogany desk.
“In twenty-four hours, the SEC will freeze our foreign accounts and unseal the 1996 extortion files!”
“We are going to federal prison for the rest of our lives unless that woman and her child disappear before they land in Chicago!”
Richard Sterling stood up slowly, his face ashen, the veins along his temples throbbing with predatory malice.
“Julian’s jet is scheduled to touch down at Midway Airport at eight o'clock tonight,” Richard said, his gravelly voice dropping into a menacing whisper.
“I have already mobilized six former Eastern European intelligence operatives through our private maritime security contractor.”
“They will intercept Julian’s armored motorcade on the private airport access road using an industrial frequency scrambler and heavy kinetic vehicles.”
“What about the poison, Father?” Victoria asked, holding up the amber vial containing concentrated synthetic aconitine.
“If the kinetic ambush fails, my contact inside the Lake Forest estate’s catering staff will lace the child’s evening milk with three drops of this compound.”
“It mimics acute pediatric cardiac arrhythmia and leaves zero biological residue in standard toxicology panels.”
“They think they can waltz into our city and strip my crown?” Victoria hissed, her eyes burning with pure, unadulterated venom.
“I will make sure Clara watches her daughter die in her arms just like she watched her mother die in poverty.”
Unknown to both conspirators, the high-gain directional laser microphone mounted on the building across the street had captured every single syllable of their conversation.
Inside the Chicago FBI Field Office, Special Agent Marcus Reed removed his headphones, turning to his tactical team with cold, lethal precision.
“We have full audio verification of premeditated murder, interstate conspiracy, and domestic terrorism,” Agent Reed announced.
