Chapter 13 - The Verdict of Justice

Following the conclusion of the federal sentencing, our family walked down the grand granite steps of the Dirksen Federal Building into the warm afternoon sunshine.

Hundreds of reporters, photographers, and television camera crews swarmed the plaza, their flashbulbs illuminating the plaza as they shouted questions about the future of Thorne Global.

Julian raised his hand slightly, stepping to the outdoor microphones to deliver the official family statement.

“For thirty years, our family carried a wound that no amount of wealth could heal,” Julian spoke with deep, resonant conviction.

“Today, the law has proven that no matter how powerful a lie may seem, the truth will always rise to claim its rightful throne.”

“Under the leadership of my cousin, Clara Thorne, our conglomerate will return to the founding principles of honor, integrity, and generous service to the people of this great city.”

The crowd cheered enthusiastically, the applause echoing off the surrounding skyscrapers of Dearborn Street.

Reporters snapped dozens of photographs of little Lily standing proudly beside her great-grandmother, holding a bouquet of fresh white roses.

Lady Beatrice looked down at her great-granddaughter, her eyes shining with tears of pure, unadulterated joy.

“Your grandmother is looking down from heaven right now, my precious angel,” Beatrice whispered softly, gently kissing Lily’s cheek.

“She is watching you dance in the light, and she knows our family is finally whole.”

We climbed into our private armored limousine, leaving the flashing cameras behind as we drove toward the serene sanctuary of Lake Forest.

The city of Chicago, which had once felt like an insurmountable jungle of cold streets and exhausting restaurant shifts, now opened its arms to welcome its rightful heirs.
