Chapter 4 - Victoria's Arrogance Shattered

Victoria tried to shove past Julian, but two armed private security guards stepped in front of the elevator doors, blocking her escape.

She spun around, her expensive crimson dress swishing violently as she pointed an accusatory, manicured finger at me.

“You think you can just walk in here with a dirty child and take my place?” Victoria snarled, her aristocratic mask completely disintegrating into rabid hatred.

“I have been Julian’s fiancée for two years! I sit on the board of the Thorne Foundation! The city of Chicago knows me as the future queen of this empire!”

“You are nothing, Victoria,” I spoke, stepping forward until I stood inches from her trembling face.

“You are the daughter of a thief and an extortionist who drove a pregnant woman into poverty to steal her crown.”

“You forced my six-year-old daughter to dance on a ballroom floor to entertain your shallow friends for a million dollars.”

“Now, let us see how much your million-dollar check is worth when your father is in federal chains.”

Julian reached down to Victoria’s left hand, his fingers closing around the five-carat heirloom diamond engagement ring on her finger.

Without a word of pity or hesitation, Julian twisted the heavy platinum ring off her finger, pulling it from her hand with ruthless finality.

Victoria let out an agonizing, choked shriek as the symbol of her social elevation was stripped from her in an instant.

Julian walked over to me, gently taking my hand and placing the five-carat heirloom diamond into my palm.

“This ring belonged to your mother, Clara,” Julian said, his eyes filled with profound reverence.

“It was forged for the rightful firstborn daughter of the Thorne bloodline, and it will never touch a traitor’s skin again.”

Victoria fell to her knees on the plush carpet, sobbing in pure, undiluted humiliation as her thirty-year family scheme evaporated into dust.

“Julian, please!” she wept, clawing at his trousers with desperate hands.

“My father did it for our future! We can share the equity! You can’t leave me with nothing!”

Julian looked down at her with cold, unyielding disgust, stepping back so her hands touched only the floor.

“Escort Miss Sterling to the ground floor lobby,” Julian commanded his chief of security.

“Confiscate her corporate credentials, freeze her domestic spending accounts, and ensure the press outside captures every second of her departure.”

Two female security officers seized Victoria by her arms, dragging her toward the private elevator as she shrieked obscenities into the quiet penthouse.

The heavy brass elevator doors slid shut, sealing the fate of the woman who had dared to mock an innocent child.
