Chapter 6 - THE FATHER WHO NEVER DIED

The mansion's gates locked automatically.
Every phone lost signal.
The security system switched to an external command.
Adrian looked at Marcus.
“You planned this.”
Marcus shook his head.
“I follow orders.”
“Whose?”
Marcus didn't answer.
Then the elevator opened.
A wheelchair rolled into the hallway.
The man sitting inside was older.
Thinner.
His hair completely white.
But Adrian knew him instantly.
Thomas Whitmore.
His father.
Alive.
Sophie stared.
“Is that Grandpa?”
Adrian couldn't answer.
Thomas smiled.
“Hello, Adrian.”
Adrian's hands curled into fists.
“You're dead.”
“I wanted you to think so.”
“Why?”
“Because you were becoming difficult.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“You destroyed my family.”
Thomas laughed.
“No.”
“I built your family.”
“You stole my son.”
“I protected the Whitmore name.”
“You murdered Claire.”
Thomas shook his head.
“I never murdered her.”
Adrian stopped.
Thomas looked at Elena.
“Did she tell you?”
Elena's face was hard.
“You left her in that hospital.”
“I left her alive.”
“You ordered the doctors to erase her identity.”
“She was dangerous.”
“She was your daughter-in-law.”
“She was a threat.”
Adrian looked at his father.
“Why?”
Thomas's expression became serious.
“Because Claire discovered the one thing that could destroy everything.”
“The money?”
“No.”
Thomas pointed toward Sophie.
“Her.”
Adrian looked confused.
Thomas continued.
“Sophie wasn't supposed to survive.”
Elena stepped forward.
“Don't.”
Thomas smiled.
“You want the truth? Tell him.”
Adrian turned toward Elena.
“What is he talking about?”
Elena's eyes filled with tears.
“Sophie was born with a rare genetic condition.”
“What condition?”
“She has an unusual blood marker.”
Adrian frowned.
Thomas interrupted.
“Not a medical condition.”
He smiled.
“A legal one.”
Adrian stared.
Thomas explained.
“Your family trust contains a clause.”
“What clause?”
“If a Whitmore heir is born from a direct descendant of Thomas Whitmore and a woman outside the family, that child becomes the primary beneficiary.”
Adrian's eyes widened.
“Sophie inherits everything.”
Thomas nodded.
“Every company.”
“Every account.”
“Every property.”
“Everything.”
Adrian finally understood.
Thomas hadn't been protecting the empire.
He had been protecting control.
He had erased Claire because she knew Sophie was the rightful heir.
He had hidden Ethan because Ethan had an even older claim.
Thomas smiled.
“Two children.”
“Two heirs.”
“One empire.”
Adrian looked at Sophie.
She was terrified.
Thomas continued.
“You could have kept everything.”
Adrian stared at him.
“How?”
“Give me Sophie.”
Silence.
Adrian stepped toward his daughter.
Thomas smiled.
“Choose carefully.”
Adrian looked at the man who had controlled his entire life.
Then at Sophie.
He remembered the moment he had first held her.
The tiny fingers.
The crying.
The promise he had made to protect her.
He finally understood.
His father had spent decades teaching him that family meant blood and money.
But Adrian had learned something else.
Family meant choosing someone even when it cost you everything.
“No.”
Thomas's smile disappeared.
Adrian stepped in front of Sophie.
“You don't get her.”
Thomas nodded slowly.
“Then you lose everything.”
Adrian looked at him.
“I already did.”
May you like
He took Sophie's hand.
“And I'm finally getting my family back.”
