Chapter 16 - THE UNCLAIMED ASSETS

Six months after Dr. Sterling’s conviction—where he received thirty years in state prison without parole—the court ordered a total forfeiture of Ray’s asset network.
Over $1.2 million was recovered from offshore accounts, seized property, and insurance restitution funds.
Because Ray had no valid legal heirs remaining, the Chancery Court awarded the liquidated capital to the surviving victims.
Hope, Caleb, and I received $400,000 as direct restitution for identity theft and physical harm.
We gathered in the conference room at the Cedar Lane center to decide what to do with the money.
“I don't want a single dollar of it in my personal account,” Hope declared flatly, setting her coffee mug down.
“Neither do I,” Caleb agreed. “It’s blood money.”
I pulled out a prepared legal document drafted by our foundation’s corporate attorney.
“We don't keep it,” I said.
“We use it to establish the Cedar Lane Emergency Medical & Legal Trust.”
“What will the trust fund?” Hope asked.
“It will fund mobile medical teams in underserved rural counties,” I explained.
“And it will provide free legal representation for minors and young adults escaping domestic medical abuse, forced guardianship, and financial coercion.”
Caleb smiled—a warm, genuine smile that reached his eyes.
“That turns Ray’s stolen fortune into an engine for freedom,” Caleb said.
“Where do we sign?” Hope asked, pulling out a pen.

We signed the trust documents together under the afternoon sunlight pouring through the center’s windows.
The money that was meant to purchase my death was officially converted into a shield for thousands of others.
