Chapter 7 - The Fatal Prescription

While my legal teams finalized the seizure of the Florida assets, Dr. Evelyn Vance, a renowned forensic pathologist and Harold's former personal physician, arrived at the command center. She carried a sealed archival envelope bearing the official seal of the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office from twenty-five years ago.

"Lucas, after your team flagged the anomalies in Harold's estate trust, I pulled the original tissue samples and cardiac telemetry logs from the night he passed," Dr. Vance explained, placing the digital readouts on my glass desk. "Harold didn't suffer a natural hypertensive stroke as the family physician reported."

I looked at the toxicological spikes highlighted in bright red on the screen. "What killed my grandfather?"

"Lethal concentrations of succinylcholine—a paralytic agent that leaves zero trace unless you run a specialized gas chromatography screen," Dr. Vance said solemnly. "And the only person who had access to Harold's private medication dispenser the night he died was seventeen-year-old Julian, who had been staying at the manor for the summer."

My hands gripped the edge of the desk until the titanium trim groaned under the pressure. Julian hadn't just orchestrated financial fraud; he had committed cold-blooded patricide at seventeen to trigger the trust fund before Harold could discover Arthur's embezzlement.

"Julian stole Harold's life, and then he stole mine," I whispered, the cold fury inside me solidifying into an unyielding vow of total destruction. "He built his entire empire of lies on the murdered body of the only man who truly loved me in this family."

Marcus Kane entered the room, holding a printed flight manifest from the Federal Aviation Administration. "Julian's private Gulfstream jet is currently fueled and idling at the Palm Beach International Airport, scheduled for a private departure to Zurich at eleven tonight."

"He won't make it to that runway," I said, standing up and buttoning my charcoal overcoat. "Notify the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Major Frauds Division."

"Are we having the federal marshals arrest him at the yacht club?" Marcus asked, preparing the encrypted dispatch. "Or do you want the local authorities to intercept his limousine on the highway?"

May you like

"Neither," I replied, walking toward the exit of the command trailer where my helicopter was already spooling its twin turbines in the rain. "I want Julian to walk onto that yacht believing he is the untouchable king of the world, and I want to look into his eyes when the crown burns to ashes on his head."

The helicopter blades roared to life, kicking up a cyclone of water and autumn leaves as we lifted off into the stormy Midwestern sky, heading south toward the Florida coast. The reckoning twelve years in the making was finally about to descend upon the golden boy.
