Chapter 3 - The Sovereign Trust

In the master library, my chief forensic auditor, Elena Hayes, sat surrounded by mountains of financial files extracted from the estate’s wall safe.

She held a heavy, red-leather portfolio bound with golden thread and stamped with Julian’s personal wax signet.

“Marcus, we found the authentic, uncorrupted version of your brother’s last will and testament,” Elena announced, handing me the parchment.

The document was dated six months prior to the crash, signed before three independent judges in Zurich, Switzerland.

I unfolded the heavy paper, recognizing Julian’s bold, elegant handwriting on the final distribution pages.

To My Beloved Brother, Marcus, the opening preamble read, the words striking my chest with the weight of an unyielding promise.

If you are reading this document, it means the darkness I feared inside my own home has consumed me.

I knew three months ago that Vivienne was siphoning funds and meeting with Bradley Thorne in secret.

I was weak, Marcus; I was blinded by my desire for a peaceful family, and my weakness has put my precious children in grave danger.

I hereby revoke all testamentary rights, allowances, and spousal benefits previously granted to Vivienne Vance.

The entirety of the Vance Maritime Empire—valued at four hundred and twenty million dollars—is bequeathed unconditionally to Noah Vance and Chloe Vance.

And I appoint my brother, Marcus Vance, as their absolute, sole legal guardian, protector, and sovereign trustee.

Protect my babies, Marcus; teach Noah to be strong, and tell Chloe her daddy loved her with every beat of his heart.

Beneath Julian’s signature was a certified biological DNA affidavit and a comprehensive forensic audit of Vivienne’s embezzlement pipeline.

Julian had known he was marked for death, and in his final weeks, he had laid a legal and financial fortress around his children that no court could pierce.

Vivienne’s forged will—which left everything to her and placed the children in a state conservatorship—was a piece of worthless, criminal paper.

“Vivienne filed the forged documents with Judge Harrison at nine o'clock yesterday morning,” Elena explained, showing me the court docket.

“The probate court was scheduled to finalize the asset transfer at noon today at the Dallas Petroleum Club.”

I looked at the clock mounted on the mahogany wall: 10:45 AM.

We had exactly one hour and fifteen minutes before Vivienne and her corrupt lawyer attempted to claim my family’s bloodline.

“Elena, prepare the certified Swiss injunctions and notify Special Prosecutor Montgomery at the federal courthouse,” I commanded.
