Chapter 13 - The Verdict of Steel

Judge Evelyn Cross adjusted her black judicial robes, leaning forward over the high mahogany bench to pronounce the historic sentences.
Her voice resonated through the packed courtroom with the unyielding, solemn weight of the entire federal judiciary.
“In my four decades on the federal bench, I have rarely encountered such cold, calculated, and sadistic cruelty executed against innocent human lives,” Judge Cross stated.
“Vivienne Vance, for the capital premeditated murder of Julian Vance, the aggravated torture of Noah Vance and Chloe Vance, and multi-state corporate fraud, you are sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.”
Vivienne collapsed forward onto the defense table, letting out an ear-piercing wail of absolute despair as two female federal marshals immediately moved to secure her arms.
“You will serve your sentence at the Federal Medical Center in Carswell, Texas, where you will remain in solitary confinement for twenty-three hours a day,” the judge continued mercilessly.
Judge Cross then turned her piercing gaze toward Bradley Thorne, whose shoulders shook with violent, pathetic sobs.
“Bradley Thorne, for conspiracy to commit murder, corporate embezzlement, and aggravated child endangerment, you are sentenced to forty-five years in federal maximum-security prison without parole.”
“You will be remanded immediately to the United States Penitentiary in Pollock, Louisiana.”
Judge Cross brought her heavy wooden gavel down three times: BAM! BAM! BAM!
“Court is officially adjourned!”
The entire courtroom gallery erupted into a standing ovation from the journalists and spectators as the federal marshals dragged Vivienne and Thorne through the heavy iron prisoner exits into eternal oblivion.

I stood in the front row of the gallery, watching the doors close with a profound sense of closure and peace washing over my heart.
The blood debt was paid in full, my brother was avenged, and justice had triumphed over the darkest shadows.
