Chapter 7 - THE LAST LEDGER

..

The investigation lasted three months.

Bank accounts were frozen.

Family offices were searched.

Old records were recovered.

And slowly, the truth emerged.

The Whitmore fortune had been built around a trust established decades earlier.

The beneficiaries were not Julian.

Not Evelyn.

Not the extended family.

The beneficiaries were Clara and Nathaniel.

Their mother had protected their rights before disappearing.

But one final question remained.

Where had the missing money gone?

The answer was hidden in a ledger.

Nathaniel found it inside the wall of an abandoned property once owned by Margaret.

The ledger showed years of transfers.

Millions moved through shell companies.

Several names appeared repeatedly.

One belonged to Evelyn.

Another belonged to a family attorney.

And the final name shocked Julian.

His own.

He stared at it.

“I never signed these.”

Nathaniel nodded.

“I know.”

“Then someone forged my signature.”

Clara studied the dates.

“These transfers happened when you were a teenager.”

Julian looked at Nathaniel.

“Someone used my identity before I was old enough to know.”

The family attorney was arrested.

He confessed.

Evelyn had known about some transfers but not all.

The attorney had secretly diverted millions for years.

He had manipulated Evelyn into believing the money was being protected.

The real mastermind wasn't Evelyn.

It was the man everyone had trusted to manage the family.

A man who had attended every funeral.

Every wedding.

Every board meeting.

Every family dinner.

Julian's godfather.

The person who had always told them:

“Family comes first.”

When police confronted him, he smiled.

“You'll never prove it.”

Then Clara entered the room.

She placed Margaret's letter on the table.

“You forgot one thing.”

He looked at her.

“What?”

“My mother kept copies.”

May you like

His smile disappeared.
